Bannable Add-ons?

Heyoo,

 

I was recently banned for what I feel was literally no reason. I've already posted my appeal and all that, but just trying to figure out what could have flagged my account for being banned. I used a nostalrius add-on pack, everything worked correctly and only modified my UI. Are there some add-ons that are not allowed? I know any that update your WDB files for in-game models are not allowed (per TOS), but what about mail management addons?

No, you can't use a mailing addon, to send out spam mail.

You'll get reported eventually, and banned.

GMs do not hand out bans "for literally no reason". Time and time again, people come to the forums proclaiming that they were banned "for no reason", and literally every time, it is revealed that they were gold trafficking or hacking or exploiting some bug.

1. I've already posted in ban appeals, just waiting for a response still.

2. I intend to make a new account and continue playing, I just want to know if there are any add-ons that I should not be including.

Making a separate thread about it here will not make the GMs respond to your appeal faster.

 

As far as I know, there are no addons that would get you a ban if you used them. At least, I've never heard of anyone getting banned for using an addon.

I got automatically banned and was given the reason several days later of 'hacking or using modified files', considering I was using the unmodified client and not 'hacking' I came to the conclusion that an addon must be at fault. I was in the process of sending a bunch of items to one of my alts using CT_Mailmod when I got disconnected and when I tried to log back in my account had been closed. So sending mass mail with an addon could possibly trigger something in the automatic system.

That's the same mod I use to send multiple stacks of materials to guild mates. That's the only conclusion that I can draw as well :(

I use the exact same addon.   I send both gold and multiple items, between my characters.    I have not once, had an issue with this.

The difference might be though - my gold is clean and my items are farmed.

It isn't unreasonable to think that CT_Mailmod might be interpreted as spam, and the fact that not everyone using the addon has been banned for it doesn't necessarily imply gold buying or hacking. Without knowing their code it's hard to know for sure.

If there are commonly used addons that trigger the anti-cheat system, then that's a problem. Appealing requires a dev to look into it, which costs them time. Determining false positives is, depending on their code, probably pretty difficult. It might be worth looking closer at such potential edge-cases to at least be able to inform players "addons manipulating behavior x might be interpreted as cheating and should not be used".

Please be sure to report back here if this does prove to be the case (CT_Mailmod being the reason you were banned). People need to know about that. Hopefully devs will investiage and reverse their decision if this is the case.

It's also quite sad to see gotmilk0112 having over 1000 posts on the forum and contributing nothing helpful at all. :|

No, CT_MailMod does not get you banned. I've sent 8+ items to an alt a whole bunch of times now, and never got banned for it.

I too have been banned for hacking/cheating and suspect an addon. I don't have CT_Mailmod though, these are what I was using:

One person using an addon and not being banned is not proof it's safe to use.  Also what truth are you referring too?

Anyonw else been using CT_Mailmod safely for a while?  as it is an addon I would like to use myself. Sending items one at a time is annoying af.

Would guess most ppl who have played this game for awhile, has a banker, alts, friends uses some kind of mail mod. Be it CT or postal or gmail or whatever. I can't for my life think that having a mailmod is bannable. Using it for spam or any other shady activity might be though.

I was playing the game without addons and I got banned for hacking/cheating.
It can happen, trust me. Someone here on the forums suspected that I had something to do with the DDOS attacks.
Could also just be some game/server/database bug.
Using the ban appeal thread they will only confirm that the account was used for hacking/cheating. Not really investigate in what happened.
So there is no way back in it seems.
