DM Tribute runs question

Recommended Posts

I was doing a DM north run last night, and we were talking about doing a normal run instead of a tribute.  I was trying to recall what I had read in development updates about it.  I was under the impression you would get nothing extra for doing a tribute run, then I went and found the actual note about tribute runs:

Dire Maul

Improved scripts for many bosses and mobs in Dire Maul.

The Gordok Inner Door Key now disappears when entering a new instance of Dire Maul.

The named guards in Dire Maul no longer drop loot after adding items to the Tribute.

So now I'm not clear on this.  Explain to me, is there still incentive for doing tribute runs?

Yeah, this was/is my difficulty.  I remembered that development update incorrectly as saying you wouldn't get anything extra in a tribute run.  What I don't understand and have gotten like 3 different answers, is what do you get in the tribute chest?

Is it an expanded loot table?  The normal run loot table + tribute run loot table?  Do you get two item for each skipped boss?  Howsit work yo.

You get several pre-raid bis (and to some extent BiS) items from chest and mandatory raid-buffs.

4 guards.   Kill them all, no loot in chest.   Kill some, a couple items in chest.  Kill none, a lot of items in chest.

What people would do is, only have the healer talk to the NPC to summon the chest and get the king buff.    4 remaining people would back track through the guards and kill them on the way out to get more loot or D/E Vendor fodder.     The made it so after you complete tribute, the guards don't drop loot.
