Herbalism or mining

Straightforward question. Which is more profitable?

If you lvling skinning, cuz you can do it while doing quests.

Get both lol. And while running switch between or keep herb track. Ores are not random always in caves and on hills so youcan see them without tracking.

There are a Ton of people with this mentality. I noticed while leveling just about every herb except end game herbs are dirt cheap in the AH.

Swifthirstle goldthorn sungrass fadeleaf are not cheap at all and few stacks pay for your lvl 40 mount and all of them are plentifull while leveling. And at max. lvl you will need 2-3k gold for prebis mount and consums to stack up on and these 2 are great farming profesions on road to max lvl. I got 6 black lotuses while questing and tens of arcanite crystals. Which payed for my epic mount the day i reached 60.

As a level 46 Warrior on Elysium PvP with 250 mining, I'm still waiting for it to pay off. I read somewhere that Herbalism is the best profession to get because everyone will need consumables over and over, where as there will be a point in time where ores are not necessary (people are geared etc..). But to run Raids, people require herbs for consumables.

 

Not sure what the best course of action is, but I think you'll be richer with Herbalism.

Don't you guys think that if he could/wanted to get both, he wouldn't be asking which one is better?

Anyway... mining is nice at high level if you know the spots with lots of ore, because thorium/truesilver have good price and you happeb to get some gems too.

Get both once rich and have gear you needed you can get engineering if you are into pvp if pve jusk keep those 2

Don't go mining unless you want to level engineering. If you do that just save everything you mine until you have enough (check a guide) and then drop it for herbalism. Herbalism is hands down more profitable than mining.

I dropped 300 mining on my rogue for (dis)enchanting. I made so little gold off it I decided I was better being able to DE my items. In comparison a Black Lotus can sell for 75g right now on Anathema (pre nost shutdown they were spiking well over 100g/lotus). The only somewhat viable way to make gold as a miner is to be a warrior/healer and team up with the other class and farm DM:E 3 bosses. With that farm you get to DE 3+ blue items per run and mine two of the Rich Thorium Veins which have a chance to drop those crystals. 

tl;dr take herbalism, be a mage, and make 500g+ on AV weekends

You will never see large profits from mining.
