Gnog 1 Report post Posted March 26, 2017 Sorry for asking what is probably a common question, but I'm having trouble getting a good understanding of the current PvP scene just by reading the existing posts. Most of them are related to specific guilds or people or events that I don't know, and as an outsider it's all very hard to follow. I would like to do a healthy mix of PvE and PvP. I can play enough to do progression raiding and would like to do both world and BG PvP, including some PvP honor ranking. Would appreciate your thoughts of which side to choose and why. Thanks a lot.
csant 3 Report post Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) If you want instant bg queues go Alliance. There are more horde so wpvp and running into multiple hordies almost all the time will happen. You will have your share of wpvp as horde too because Alliance are very active in wpvp. Im not 60 yet, so these are my fews from leveling horde and alliance into the 40's. Not sure about the PvE side neither, though I have read that there are a couple of pug MC's going weekly. Edited March 27, 2017 by csant
Muldreg 3 Report post Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) It will always come down to which race and class you would rather play. Horde always seems to have a higher population base, (We are creeping up to having a steady 60% horde population on this server) but because of this, their BG queues are longer than Alliance. They also appear (according to the forums) to have more PUG BG groups and less premades. As Alliance, you can expect to get ganked more often going from point A to point B than if you were a Horde player. At least this has been my experience. As far as PvE goes, I think you will find what you are looking for on either faction. Plenty of guilds forming, recruiting, and raiding Edited March 27, 2017 by Muldreg
Ashocck 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2017 Let's see..... high level zones saturated with horde, who chase you across the map even if you are significantly lower than they are. Not by just one, but many. Whole zones impossible to quest in. Alliance PUGS being incredibly incompetent even at 60 in BGS. I mean clueless about real BG basics. Yeah, go ahead and choose Alliance.
Gnog 1 Report post Posted March 28, 2017 Thanks very much for the responses. I rolled a gnome warrior. I figured that I don't mind getting ganked in open world if it means I'll be able to find World and BG PvP when I want it. I also figured that I should be able to find a guild as a fury warrior, when the time for that comes. It's been a long time since I played Vanilla, and I don't know the server well. Do ya'll have any further comments specific to my selection of gnome warrior? If gnome war is a bad decision (either due to PvP / PvE / leveling / getting a guild) it'd be great to know now and not after I level to 50+. My other inclination was gnome mage. I decided against mage because I am worried I wouldn't get into a guild at L60 and because I remember liking to PvP as a warrior a bit more. Thanks again.
Muldreg 3 Report post Posted March 29, 2017 Your choice of race should always be "which would you prefer to play" instead of "what everyone says is the best race for ____ class", in my opinion. So your choice of a gnome for your warrior shouldn't be an issue unless you are trying to min-max to the fullest and be #1 dps on some raid log website. From personal experience I see a lot of people recruiting Druids, Mages, Priests, and Warlocks. Warriors are always useful and only get better with gear. Assuming you're decent at the class, you shouldn't have any issues finding a guild looking to recruit you. hope this helps a little.
csant 3 Report post Posted March 29, 2017 yeah, some min/max guild will have a problem with you picking gnome. but for pvp gnome is a good choice because of escape artist.
Gnog 1 Report post Posted April 10, 2017 So I am level 30 now (gnome warrior). I've gone protection spec for leveling because I hate questing and will probably just grind dungeons most of the way. When I hit level 60, how hard will it be to find a PvP-focused guild as a warrior? I'd like to mostly play BGs in premade and do world PvP. If I'm setting myself up for disappointment (like if warriors are in way oversupply for PvP or whatever) it would be nice to know now, before I invest too much more in the character. There are other classes I'm willing to play. Thanks!
csant 3 Report post Posted April 10, 2017 You didnt have to spec protection to tank dungeons. You can tank well enough as arms or fury spec, just have the gear to tank. Warriors are gods in pvp when paired with healers and being on alliance side freedom and being a gnome kiting you will be nearly impossible. If you dedicate the time to getting good. Getting into a pvp guild or group shouldn't be a problem, if the spot is open for a warrior. =)
Gnog 1 Report post Posted April 24, 2017 Since you've reanimated this thread, I'll note that I'm level 45 now, still sticking w the gnome. I've been taking my time. It's been a blast so far, and, as one noted, I tank fine in a PvP spec at this level. But holy shit, the ganking is real. I don't bother trying to do quests in popular zones. I just go there when I need some PvP. That makes things much more livable, leveling as alliance.
