      105
    • Delay the ability to ring the gong until prime time (5pm GMT+1) on wednesday
      43
    • Delay the ability to ring the gong until Saturday morning

Greetings Anathema,

The leading guilds are extremely close to being able to ring the gong and open the gates of Ahn'Qiraj's! These is an exciting time for the project, but it raises a question.

If everything goes to plan for these guilds they will be able to complete the scepter quest and ring the gong soon after maintenance this week. That will mean one of the most important events in the history of World of Warcraft will occur at a time when the server population is at its lowest. We could do nothing (option 1) but we could also delay the event to allow more people to bear witness.

We would love to see healthy debate, and encourage you to reach out to staff on discord. The Old God is ready to face anyone stupid brave enough to enter the temple.

Thank You.

Sincerely,
Elysium Staff

What ? Absolutely not, we've been waiting for this for like 2 years. This is the entire reason all the people on anathema are playing on anathema. If you delay this any longer all you do is make the server population go down more and make it harder for the guilds that want to do AQ. This is a terrible idea.

You have read the post? They are talking about a few hours to make sure everyone can experience the opening event.

...It's two days until the event. You wait until now to bring this up for a poll/discussion? That's pretty unfair to those who have been planning/assuming that server would be up at the usual time on Wednesday after maintenance.

If you wanted to do this, you really should have brought it up weeks ago, let alone TWO DAYS before the event is expected to occur. Bad form if you decide to change things at the last minute, as sensible as it may be.

Just get it started already. No reason to delay it further.

If the content isn't ready, say so. Otherwise, let players access it as soon as they have earned the right. Which is shortly after maintenance. Don't insult the work they've put in to open the gates ASAP by delaying it so some extra people can bear witness. Screw that.

Interesting question. If you want to replicate Blizzard then you should let it progress naturally. If you want to act like a nanny-state then manipulate it any which way you can. I'd hope the answer is obvious.

Option D:

Let them ring the gong ASAP to set their position in the race. You're allowing a set number, anyway. don't allow more than that.

Then actually do the gate event and open the gates during prime.

IIR bliz did something similar on my classic server, because we rang the gong and the servers had to go down and come back up for the event to actually work.

You have to consider the fact that due to your customization of the mount quest, that only 6 people get to receive the mount. Since there are ~10 people in contention for the mount, if you delay the ringing of the gong then it just comes down to who can click the gong quicker whenever you delay the event to. I propose you keep the mount part of the equation to the current circumstance, which is essentially the 6 guilds that can clear BWL the fastest after the reset get a mount.

Many of us are ok with this, because at least there's a form of reward for being a better guild and having a better clear time. If we end up losing out on the bug mount at least that means the other guilds were better than us at BWL that day. If you change the gong ring time then ALL it rewards is ping and luck, which would absolutely enrage the 100s of people that have spent 20h+ on this mount quest only for it to come down to luck.

Do not change it at all. This server has been waiting wayyyy too long for AQ to come out and the community wants it to come out asap... (edit) would like to note that everyone has known this was going to come out this way for more then a week now so for gm's to finally say something is kind of sneaky

Edit: Yeah I think you should delay it for 5pm EU time.

Wish I could revote because I didn't realize maintenance happens at like 3am US time.

I read the post. They are talking about making it so that all the effort to do the Scepter chain turns into who can click fastest on a gong rather than what guilds put in the most work. There are about 10+ guilds in contention right now for it. So that means 4 guilds(players) don't get their mount. If they delay, its random 4 instead of the ones that did the work. If they said they were delaying the EVENT and not the GONG hit, then I wouldn't care as much. Also, I stand by what I said earlier about further delay of AQ. AQ is the reason anathema isn't dead. Don't delay it more.

Good thing something like this comes up 2 Days before the gong can be rang, also this will ruin the competition for the guilds that put in the effort, do not do this

Dear Elysium Staff,

you should do way more advertisement for this event on twitter or other networks. If you do it right, the gong will be rang on a peak of population because everyone will login for it.

Just a quick recap of the drama surrounding the opening of the AQ gates:

  1. Missed deadline on website timeline by a month, but tons of unrelated project drama probably contributed to that.
  2. Custom war effort announced, increased numbers for increased population, but aiming for 3-4 week time frame.
  3. War effort numbers revealed to be large and demoralizing. Completion rate indicates about 6 month time frame.
  4. 3 weeks into war effort, staff announce they will lower war effort numbers and implement an autocomplete feature to be finished by 4/19
  5. War effort numbers reduced, but still many times the Blizzard numbers and no chance of making 4/19 deadline.
  6. No autocomplete implemented, but war effort does end on 4/19! Yay!
  7. Staff announce with 2 days notice that they are considering delaying the gong event to cater to casual scum.

Seriously. If you guys would have just kept quiet and not made deadlines/changes/proposals that you couldn't stick to there would have been so much less bile associated with what is otherwise a fun event for the server. But you couldn't keep your mouths shut about it and are now proposing to change it again. Stop changing things and just stop posting anything at all about the War Effort except for a congratulatory post about the gates being open on Wednesday. 99% of the drama involved in this entire event could have been avoided by keeping quiet.
