+15 Strength or Crusader for my OH? (Mirah's Song)

Recommended Posts

I've been fiddling with Crusader enchants ever since I got Mirah's Song to replace Thrash Blade (it didn't really proc enough to make up for the low DPS, lack of any stats, and slow speed for an OH weapon). With Crusader enchants on both of my weapons, Holy Strength seems to stay up reasonably often, and occasionally even stacks due to crusader proccing on both weapons near the same time. However, I'm a bit disappointed by the low proc rate of Crusader on my OH. It does proc -- just not often enough to keep Holy Strength sustained on my character as often as I had hoped.

Does anyone have any theorycraft-esque arguments regarding whether +15 STR might be a better alternative?

This should be an easy one.

Crusader is a 1 PPM rate based on BASED weapon speed. (doesn't factor in increased % attack speed).

Use this information to determine the proc rate % of the enchant on a specific weapon.

60/1.8 = 33.3 auto attacks in 1 minute.   The 1 PPM tells us one of those should proc in that time.  1/33.3 - 0.03030.   This gives us a 3% proc rate on the OH with a 1.8 speed.

Because this is OH and not MH, it isn't benefiting from instant attacks other than WW.  WW has a 10 second cooldown so can be used 6 times in the same 1 minute.

The OH should get 33.3 hits + 6 from WW on single target giving us 39.3 hits total per minute.  Now we pull the 3% proc rate of 39.3 hits, the OH will average 1.179 procs each minute.

The buff last 15 seconds.  Our Average buff time based on the 1.179 procs each minute is 17.68 seconds.  Or 29.46% of 1 minute you have 100 STR.

With these findings you can then simply take 29.46% of 100 str and see how it compares to 15str.

100 * 0.2946 = 29.46.  Drop the remainder.   29 > 15.

Crusader is 93.3% more effective on average as an OH enchant than +15 STR is.

The math itself checks out, however in vanilla ww only hits With your MH. OH damage was added to ww in mid-tbc.

With that in mind, then your average STR would be 25 instead of 29.    Still 25 > 15.

Yep, sounds about right.

I like how you did all this math to realise that 1PPM means 1 proc every 60 seconds, meaning its up 25% of the time, meaning its roughly equal to 25 str.

Lol too funny. He did it though to factor in WW before realizing it's a non factor in vanilla.

You are forgetting that crusader needs to proc and be used to be effective.  Meaning if you kill your target and crusader procs you won't get the full benefit of that proc between switching to a new target or having no additional targets at all.  In PvE that's not a big deal but in PvP you will very often not get the full utility of anything that needs to proc.
