2 hand warrior tanking

Recommended Posts

Hi

Picked up the Unyielding Maul last night and I'm quite keen to try some 2 hand Warrior tanking. Can't find much on this - is it even viable without being really over geared for content? I'm not talking about raids but I quite like the idea of a smashing through Strat and Scholo.

Will the lack of armour and block mean I end up needing to sword and board for all bosses anyway? Or can I stack dodge/parry gear to make it a possibility?

Will holding threat be possible against half decent DPS?

Would this MS spec work for example?

I figure an opening would be: Charge, Bloodrage, beserker stance, whirlwind, Beserker rage, defensive stance, mortal strike, demo shout.

Thanks!

Unyielding maul is for Beartanks. There's no such thing as "2h warrior tanking". However, with BWL/PVP/AQ gear and an equally geared and skilled healer you can indeed 2h tank most 5man trash and bosses (with a fre exceptions). I do this myself as a means to farm Strat-living for orbs but we're all bwl geared and above in those runs.

tldr: forget about it.

You take 20% more damage, and not do much more damage to make up for it.  You will burn your healers mana causing more down time than using a shield.

If the healer is bored, they can help dps a little, and would be the same contribution.

Yeah - I totally get it's not a thing, and I'm not doing it to speed stuff up - I'm thinking about trying it because it might be fun!

But if it requires BWL + gear then I guess not!

If you have 3/5 Tactical mastery, if you want, you can make a macro to swap to 2h for when you WhirlWind in 5 mans.  Outfitter will you can setup to put your shield and sword back on when you go back into def stance.

Swap to zerker stance, (you'll have 15 rage) then blood rage to get you enough rage to WW (hit your equip 2h macro) hit wirlwind, then go back into def stance and outfitter will swap your equipment back.

I wouldn't set outfitter to swap 2h in fury because as a tank you'll still go into fury stance for bezerker rage for fear immunity when tanking at times and for extra rage from damage received.

You'll have to find a healer willing to go along with your insanty aswell:D

I've done a lot of Strat farming with 2H tanks.
The group usually consists of 2 BiS 2H warriors in full plate gear, 1 warlock with a decent health pool and 2 BiS healers (priest + druid).
As you might understand, there is a certain gear requirement to make this efficient and healers need to manage their mana well.
Runs usually take around 25 mins.

Heh, im been in party with 2h warrior *tank* in Scholo (he was fury and r13 i think) and he doing really good. Also that party had good healer and good dps with cc, so we did 4 runs from start to last boss Cald (skip jandice). 1 run=1 hour or less depends on situation. Realm Elysium.

However, y not should be 2h tank, because for that need really good party (i mean about dream team heh).

Thankfully I know a druid who is prepared to go along with me on this. (At least once) =D

Thanks - I've been doing this all manually. Which is not efficient to say the list!

The way I've been doing it is with this setup:

Healer: T2 priest

Tank/DPS #1: Me, 2h fury with BWL-gear and Sulfuras

Tank/DPS #2: DW-fury warrior with AQ gear.

Tank/DPS #3: (Any random DPS)

DPS #4: Enchancement shaman with Sulfuras and WF.

We clear in about 20-30mins. One of the warriors will have to use a shield for Balnazzar though since he hits like a freight train on steroids.

Well my setup is going to be:

Healer - Druid, mostly blues, couple of greens.

Tank - Me, maybe a third of the way to pre-raid BiS.

DPSx3 - PUGs.

Just use a shield until you are in BwL gear.

using a 2 hander alone isnt enough, make sure you're also sitting down to get constant enrage uptime and sit in zerker stance too. when overpower procs tab through the mobs to get it off.

I've done dozens of 2 man brd runs, 15 min and emperor is down if all goes well in BWL gear with a pre nerf BRE. Perfect way to earn good coin and farm ironfoe meanwhile.
