Luwoo 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2017 Hi everyone, Wanted to share something I've noticed while playing on Elysium. In retail, I've never really thought about it because there everybody is just rushing to hit end-game contect and don't stop to reflect. But here, I got to feel a bit of that 'Vanilla vibe' and it changed my perception of levelling. Basically, what I have in mind by a change in perception is picking up professions (which in Vanilla are a much larger part of your life than in retail). I spent some time lvling before I noticed I cannot mine nodes which are in my zone. Therefore, I decided to increase mining for a while until I can further progress while levelling. And while it took me 1,5 days, it felt extremely satisfying. Not the increase in mining per se, but being able to also level my engineering, craft some bombs and even my first gun! I have never levelled professions properly until now and somehow here it just feels very satisfying to supplement my ability to level through professions (by crafting better gear, useful items etc.) In addition, I picked up first aid (super useful) and fishing (meh). I asked around some more experienced people on tips how to go about professions, and 90% of them replied I should stick with leveling and worry about professions only once I am higher level (cause it's easier). But isn't that the type of mentality that got retail to the degenerating state that it's in now? Surely a high level isn't the sole goal of this game, but instead making progress in other aspects of it ? Of course this depends on each player - I can take it slow and work on my professions while others just aim for the end-game. It wouldn't bother me (and it doesn't). But it affects me in a way that I make friends while questing and a week later I see those people being pretty much out of reach for me in terms of level (let's assume for now it's not because they spend more time playing). TL;DR Progressing on professions while lvling has a negative effect due to my friends outlevelling me. My question is not which approach is correct. Instead, I want to know how each of you goes about levelling and why :)
TheDruidCode 28 Report post Posted June 21, 2017 I always level professions as I level. It's part of the character development to me. I usually mine and don't go questing in zones where I can't mine yet.
TheDruidCode 28 Report post Posted June 21, 2017 And cooking and first aid pretty much happens by itself. I don't always fish a lot. I used to do that but don't have the patience anymore I guess.

Once upon a time I would spend hours watching movies on the couch while fishing. Good old slacker time. Life is different these days.

An4rki 3 Report post Posted June 21, 2017 On my main (my Rogue) I smash out my First Aid, Mining and Enchanting pretty much straight away so that I can get the nodes wherever I travel to. I know I should have eng but I hate it so I go with professions I enjoy. My Alt Priestess is an alchemist and herbalist and I do these as I lvl up - I dont go out of my way to smash it. My Hunters LW and Skinning is pretty much for my own gear and to help lvl on the way - so in answer to your question... both
MacFierce 4 Report post Posted June 21, 2017 I agree. I always enjoy leveling professions as i go. The big upside is no matter what profession you pick it WILL make your life much easier as you grind up to 60.

After throwing it in there is a certain minimum time when you can't get a catch. And even after that if your mouse is over it and you hear fishing sounds, you can hear the catch and click on it without looking at the screen, and can even cast it again and only need to look there for a second while you move the mouse over the new location. I can totally fish and watch movie at the same time :)
