Warrior or druid tank?

Hey

I'm new to the server and I have a question. I want to tank, but I'm unsure whether to go for druid or warrior. Are bears able to tank equally as warriors and paladins in vanilla? 

I've played live servers since release but never tanked during vanilla, so I'm a bit lost. Started tanking with paladin somewhere around Mists.

If druid tanking is doable, in leaning towards it because I can then  also heal, which is my second favourite job next to tanking.

Warriors are highest rated for tanks, and require less effort for pre bis. Most of your gear is grinding dungeons or buying from question house.

 

Druid is viable in 5 man's and 10 mans, making rend runs extremely simple if the bear is the off tank and soothes the dragonkin every time. But besides small niche uses, almost everyone prefer a warrior tank. If you qccept the role of a utility tank that gears up thru pvp grinding, and are happy with healing actual raids, then druid is fine.

But if looking for meta, go warrior to tank/dps, or priest/sham to heal over druid. 

Personally? I'm leveling a druid as an alt toon and I love it, but not being a fan of healing, so realistically I can't expect too much end game besides pvp grinding and small groups.

A bear is in 5/10 man dungeon with alot of trash slightely better for tanking because of threat ( but you have less mitigation and get overall a little bit more dmg ).

If you have prebis Tanking gear with a Bear. you are full viable to Tank every boss in Mc ( just get a 300+ fireresistance gear too) and Bwl except Nefarian ( classcall would kill you instant) 

We have 2 warrior/ 2 druids in as tanks in our roster and both druids doing a really good job( even in Bwl) and if you dont need 4 tanks switching to cat makes you a little bit more flexible. On the other hand with better gear , we see a little trend that the warrior tanks scale better with bis gear ( and they have more good gear as the druids available in bwl )(Threat and mitigation wise). 

The hardes factor as tank bear will be to find a raiding guild which accept you as a Bear Tank.

I completely agree with Vollfos. Finding a Raid Guild which would allow other Tanks than Warriors (or Paladins) will be the hardest part, though your chances are slightly better for ZG and when the Tank shortage of Naxxramas kicks in.

For Dungeons though and especially the aoe aspect druid tanks are viable and you won't find any difficultyy to find groups - this includes UBRS.

The place were I would prefer a Druid Tank over a Warrior or Paladin would be in PvP. For AV a Warrior will still be better as main Tank to survive Van and Marshall (disarm, better CDs and less damage income) though you still would make a great Offtank there in matters of kitting Guards etc. 

But why a Druid in PvP now? - Any serious WSG premade will need a good Druid FC and as a Guardian one you fill that spot perfectly.

For AB your mobility/flexability and Stealth! will also make you a nice addition.

So yes roll a Guardian Druid and learn how to master it, you surely will find a raid or PvP Guild which will get you your raid gear for some cheap DKP due to no concurrence.

Maybe i should have been more clear of my intentions. :)

I dont do PvP. Mainly because i suck horribly at it, and therefpre i dont think its fun.I do casual PvE. Im not aiming at raiding with a guild, since last time i did that i got addicted and played 16 hous a day, and also i dont have time between job and family anymore :)

So, im mainly gonna be playing casual PvE, 5/10-mans and maybe some PuG-MC/BWL if it happens.

 

This far, from what i can tell by your answers, both tanks are fine for that. Maybe Ill just have to level both to 20 and see.

In my opinion druid tanks are better than warriors for dungeons, just because they do much more damage while still having survivability and awesome threat generation. And yes, with some builds you are able to either tank or heal in dungeons without respec, if you just have the gear sets.

Raids are a different story though.
