Effect of Blizzard's Classic WoW

Recommended Posts

My personal opinion really depends on more details. They will have a playable starting zones on Friday and many more details.

I think the classic community wants them to essentially stay true to the original game that made us all fans. My fear is with how they approach retail - they will bring the same methodology to classic and mess everything up.

Time will tell and we shall see what the future brings. For now I think many people are having a great time here and we will continue to work hard to provide the best experience possible.

Thing about classic, I've played so much of it with a lot of new people opening up classic servers.. It gets pretty tiring releveling, visiting all the same content over x years. I'm ready for TBC! Personally, I don't want to play classic no more, no matter how authentic it is. I want to re-experience my TBC nostalgia memories 🙂 But this is all how I feel, can't speak for everyone else.

Same here, I've been enjoying the heck out of classic, but TBC, and maybe even WotlK are what I've got my eyes set on. As for Blizzard, I will never subscribe again, no matter what sort of release they provide.

The rest of the community is a different story. Of course, it'll depend on how they approach classic. But that'll decide a lot going forward, and I honestly doubt most of us are that interested in moving to Blizzard. Yeah, it's hard to get a BG here, but other than that, I find it superior in terms of community.

I'm staying on the WoW vanilla private servers, whichever remains after Classic. Including Elysium, should they stay operating and I hope they do.

There are plenty of servers which provide TBC/WotLK experience already, so that's not anything new.

There is going to be a huge wave of people going over to Retail Classic. I think having a lower tier subscription model would be great but most likely not going to happen and you will have to shell out the full price.

There are just too many benefits over private servers that Retail Classic will have:

  • Professional Staff & Services
  • Stability of Servers and Core
  • Safety in Terms of Security and Characters/Servers not being deleted
  • Integration of Battle.Net and having your friends together.
  • Constant, strong player base. Whether people that are taking break from LIVE game to experience the Museum or Veterans, etc...

I do like to thank Elysium for providing this brilliant service, but there are too many shortcomings that private servers have over retail. There have been too many times where power hungry staff, or malicious players have ruined servers and after spending hundreds of hours on your account, it all goes to nothing. Anyone serious about their character/time will invest in a subscription for a premium service. Anyone that plays occasionally and does not want to shell out on a subscription will remain on private servers.

Personally, I will roll on Insta 60s funservers whenever I want to test certain specs, etc for the Retail Classic.

All that matters is,

I agree with the above. I started playing WOW in 2007 at TBC.  That is where my nostalgic memories lie.  I never played vanilla.  Although it does not seem much different.  I like vanilla, but I think TBC would be a great thing.
