DPSMate - A combat analyzation tool

Recommended Posts

Sure, gotta add it to my (way to long) list of stuff to do.

Could you post it as suggestion on bitbucket, so I don't forget about it?

It is very hard to scan all 20 forum threads frequently^^

@Killerduki, do you happen to use a version that is lower than 25?

Maybe try to run it as admin, since it requires rights to connect to the internet and attempts to change files in your wow directory.

Why is it working on my Win 10 64 bit. ^^

I guess you have not installed the latest .net framework^^

cheers!

Oh, ya I figured nobody would use 32 bit anymore :/

Will look into x86 architecture. What is the error for the java launcher, beside "error connecting"?

cheers!

As for the non java version, I can't configure it to run with win xp without any major rewrites, I am sorry.

Yes.

Stable builds are listed in the releases tab on Github now or below this super secret link: https://legacy-logs.com/DPSMate.zip

Also as I can't edit on this forum, please make sure to check GitHub now and spread the word that the link is no longer valid.

If a mod could change the download link to this, would be sweet!

(Edit: I mean at the main post under instructions)

cheers!

Concerning LegacyLogs, is the UI still being worked on?

LL has the data but lacks a bit in the usability department, specially when compared to realmplayers. Here's a few issues that stand out to me:

  • The space is all taken up by charts / loot / raid composition while the thing that really matters, the meters, are shoved to the bottom of the page.
  • You can only see 10 players at a time in the meters, theres no way to get an overview of the whole raid you have to scroll up and down.
  • The links are way too long, especially for Boss only stats which is what people will be linking ingame. For example, this is the link for a regular MC: legacy-logs.com/Vanilla/Raids/Evaluation/index.php?rid=1776&attempts=60568,60571,60575,60578,60585,60590,60596,60604,60606,60612&player=&sel=0&pet=0&tarid=&mode=0
  • Boss only stats should be the default state the page loads at, not Boss & Trash.
  • There's no way to link to the efficient healing meters.
  • It gives you almost no information of about the page you're looking at. At first glance when you look at this all you see is that its a Molten Core. More visibility needs to be given to the boss and player name.

You could fix most of your concerns regarding layout and ordering using custom styling like:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylebot/oiaejidbmkiecgbjeifoejpgmdaleoha

#dmg table tbody {
    max-height: 100%;
}

As for the links: use an URL shortener if it bothers you too much.

As for the healing stats: you can fix this as well, or people just click to change the tabs (so difficult :P), but Shino should be able to add an anchor or something to switch tabs on load.

@Shino, good job on the quick-fix for the list elements in the menu not being clickable.

(...)

Hey,

first of all thanks for your kind feedback.

Many people have different tastes and it is always difficult to adjust to every taste.

As for the layout: That is the best I could come up with. I think it would't make much sense to put the charts on the top. But if you have suggestions for another layout suggestions, I am happy to implement such an option.

Regarding the amount of players:

Hover over the cogwheel and click on "compact". This is the mode you were looking for.

The default link is not really long: https://legacy-logs.com/Vanilla/Raids/Evaluation/index.php?rid=2172

However. I am showing a lot more data than realmplayers does. Thus resulting in somekind of way to filter this data, in order to not overwhelme the user completly. The menu allows you to get about 800.000 different outputs of data by combining different options. The current link is already pretty compact if you ask me^^

Could you put an suggestion to add an option for an button for a shortlink in my bugtracker on GitHub?

Boss only or both. I don't know. Most guilds I spoke with told me that they are more interested in the overall performance of their players and not just the brainless peeking at bosses. Thus I put this as default.

Well true, you can't link it directly. You have to link the summary and your friend has to click on the "efficient healing tab".

Should I save this configuration in the url as well?

Regarding the last point: I think it is a matter of the design. I am unfortunataly not very good at it. I thought that the selectors were enough.

Again, I am very open for every suggestion to improve it. But even If I know it is bad, there is no way for me to come up with something better, alone.

Please don't get me wrong. I don't want to roast you or anything. I am super happy that somebody is pointing out that could be better, but I also need to know, how I can improve it, because this is the best I could come up with. (Without loosing the option to filter every detail)

@Up.

Thank you!

But please use the not compact option before hacking my stylesheets :P

cheers!

Hey Shino,

i got some questions, but first i want to thank you for the effort you put into this addon.

I used SW_Stats in the past and when i tryed out DPSMate i just noticed that it does not stop gathering data when you are out of combat. In SW_Stats if the combat stops the DPS data will be paused, in DPSMate it keeps collecting resulting in very low DPS numbers shown in your DPS-Tab. Well, is there an option to only show in combat DPS data?

Also i would like a seperate frame where DPS data resets as soon as combat starts, so i can keep track of the dps done last fight.

I guess to add a new frame you have to push the config and new segement button, but there is no second frame appearing if i do so.

Also if i open the configuration window, there is no way to enlarge the window (like you can do with the chat window) or a sidebar to scroll down to see all options. I guess you can scroll down with your mousewheel but sadly my wheel is broken. :c

Thanks for your time.

Hey!

Yes, If it bothers you to see others you can enable "group only" in the filter options.

The option you were looking for is the "effective dps". You can enable it under columns on the configuration for the mode you'd like it to see.

To add a second frame: Open the config menu and go the the first section "windows". There you give your frame a name and click on add. Afterwards you can copy the configurations of your first frame to the new one or design it anew.

Guess I can't do much against a damaged mousewheel^^ All you can do is to unlock it and resize it to see more people.

cheers!

Not at all, overall its a good UI. I'm just pointing out minor issues that could be improved from my point of view.

Maybe some other people can weight in on it since this is so subjective. These are the changes I propose:

Compact option unchecked by default. Most people will want to see the whole list.

Row height lowered to 30px. Screenshot

Boss only stats selected by default. From my experience these last couple of years, dpsers don't really care about trash meters.

Its useful for raidleaders but the majority of people using LL won't be raidleaders, people just want to show off their boss meters.

This would fix the link issue as well since then we could use the default link to show the boss meters.

Concerning the efficient healing, maybe a better solution would be to have the healing page (Healing/index.php) sort by efficient healing instead of total.

I'm not a healer so I don't know what matters the most to them. Any healer around?

In the boss detail page, show the boss name in the title instead of the raid: Screenshot

When a player is selected, prepend his name to the title as well: Screenshot

I'm suggesting this because when I was first linked to a detail page I had no idea what I was looking at, the info is all there on the select boxes but they really don't stand out.

I know some other people in my guild had this issue as well.

Ty for your advice, i was able to create a second window.

Yes, If it bothers you to see others you can enable "group only" in the filter options.

Well this is not what i mean. The data collection of my DPS keeps going, even if i am already out of combat resulting in a constant DPS decay.

But you also mentioned the "effective dps" option. Well, i didn't see any difference between DPS and effective DPS data collection. Also the effective DPS won't pause if you are out of combat, resulting in a constant DPS decay while your raid is buffing/moving to next mob pack or boss.

About my scrolling issue, i am talking about the config windows like the columns tab. I just made a screenshot to clear things up, just let me know if a mousewheel would solve my problem there.

https://imgur.com/a/HzyzD

Also there is a reset option you can see on my screenshot, would be awesome if you could add this. I'd like to have a DPS/effective Heal window with autoreset triggered whenever a new combat starts. So i can do a quick check on last fight data (without clicking anything), while moving to the next boss/mob pack. Still you have the second window showing the data of the whole raid which will not reset at all.

Concerning the efficient healing, maybe a better solution would be to have the healing page (Healing/index.php) sort by efficient healing instead of total.
I'm not a healer so I don't know what matters the most to them. Any healer around?

You are right, effective healing is the the most important data. A healer wasting all his mana into someone that does not even need healing could be the first in overall healing done but he won't be useful at all, so effective healing is the only thing that counts.

Hmm maybe I messed something up again, will look into it.

Yes, you need a mousewheel to navigate there^^

You can make a frame and set the segment to "Current fight". This will always reset once a new fight starts.

Regarding legacy logs effective healing:

Is that not obvious enough?

In a way is raw healing very important if you ask me. You see the activity and the target the healer healed. Tank heals often have a huge amount of overheal.

Oh nice, i just tested it and was abit confused why it keeps reseting 1-5 seconds after my combat flag went off. I just noticed, there was a guy hitting the dummy, he was not in raid and my filter was set to group only, still it resets my data. Well this won't be a problem in raid instances but i don't care for dps other ppl outside my group/raid are doing and they should not be able to trigger a reset if your filter is set to "group only".
