Some questions

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am very excited about this vanilla server as I prefer it over modern versions of WoW.

I just have few questions:

1) When is it scheduled to open?

2) How will it address the enormous player-load at the start? Should we stand in queues for killing quest mobs?

3) Why not change some stuff to make game a bit more "updated" for contemporary audience. - What about improving some professions? One thing I like from modern wow is improved fishing - more fish, more recipes and etc. Or what about added class quests? Some classes get quests every 5 or 10 levels, while priest finishes quests at level 6 and then gets nothing until level 50.

And what about guild banks? Vanilla did not have guild banks...

So my main thoughts are about - 1) Class Quests. 2) Professions. 3) Guild Banks.

Pretty sure they just cant magically add new things to the game like this.

On another note, this is a blizzlike server not a modified vanilla server so pretty sure stuff like this is not happening though having a guildbank could be nice

What about the first question? Vanilla was better than all expansions, but it wasn't perfect, we could add some stuff to make the experience better than normal.

theres some woltk servers out there

You must be smart, aren't you?

I didn't answer first as no one knows. You would have found that yourself if you browsed these forums for more than 30 sec

I browsed it, but I wanted a very rough(but accurate) estimate. I mean if it's coming out before New Year, before February 2017, before summer of 2017 or when?

Nostalrius will not change anything for convenience, cosmetics, or ease. They have a solid history of trying to maintain as close to the vanilla experience as possible and that's just the way it is. No modifications will be considered. The only things they have modified are due to balancing patch content and over-population issues.

+1

It is part of  the reason Nostalrius is so awsome for me.

People don't seem to understand the aim of the project. it is just total ignorance, you really need to know what the reality of the Nost project is to prevent yourself from being shot down like this. Please get informed about why Nostalrius is so popular.

I'm new to this community but I think the community should embrace the people with these questions. It is not obvious to the newcomers what the goal or the spirit of this realm will be. Simply answer the questions and inform them of what to expect.

But to dismiss these questions and tell them to play elsewhere will only cause this community to become more and more insular, echo chamber activated. I've seen this in other EMU type servers, it really benefits the community if you welcome new people with open arms and honest answers to questions.

I agree wholeheartedly. As we get closer to whatever the release date will be, there will be plenty of new faces that don't know where to turn for the appropriate information. If anyone cannot tolerate someone asking reasonable questions, it's best to just stay off the message boards as it's not going to become anymore tolerable for you. If we'd like to help, answer directly or point new people to the appropriate source.

is an appropriate question.. it is more like a statement. Eitherway it is not appropriate for these forums.

Not appropriate for these forums? Coming from the guy putting forth complaints about a swear word filter.

The simple way to answer this guys questions was this:

This server is here to recreate the good, bad and the ugly of the Vanilla era. As far as model changes, the anti-cheat mechanics used on this server require that changing game-files (however innocuous it may seem) is not allowed otherwise it compromises the anti-cheat system. Which I'm sure you would agree is more important than having updated game models.

Really, if it comes down to TOS, stated server goals, or anything else in print, all that is needed is to link the apporpriate thread/statement in question for the OP to study. Berating a person for asking a question isn't going to yeild any positive results.

As I said, this isn't going to get any easier or less annoying for those easily annoyed.

He literally left retail because he thinks vanilla is better and then wants to have changes to make it like retail. -.-

As for the complaints about a swear word filter. I did say that it was more of an annoyance...

Do you need a safe space after you see bad word perhaps?

You can have guild banks in Vanilla.  Make an alt that your guild mails things to or trades with when whom ever is in control of guild bank manages.   Naturally this is to a trusted individual within the guild ranks.

Guilds may chose to use a guild bank alt character name that references the guilds name in it.  My previous guild's bank, we decked out in the expensive level 1 items with full enchants just because we are fashionable like that :)

There are dangers in this as some people may create a character name similar to that and hope you send expensive mats to the wrong account.  Always double-check who you send what to.

Also account sharing is not permitted so don't share the account info for the guild bank, last thing you want is to have your guild bank banned.

This is very true, I remember reading on ban appeals section how this one GM got banned and his guild were there trying to appeal to get the ban lifted so they could get the guild bank back. Hilaaaarious. Really funny read actually.

Vanilla was great because it had its issues, and thanks to those issues you relied on people/had to socialize.

Also custom content just doesent sit well with the vanilla crowd, for a reason.

I don't think they should change anything. However I do understand the hostility from people here, even if I don't support it. The whole point of the vanilla server is to be blizzlike. There are "fun" servers to play on that have many modern additions to smooth out your needs. However vanilla doesn't, so asking for them from a blizzlike server is kinda ruining the fun for everyone who doesn't want nor need those modern additions to have fun.
