Mining/Blacksmith or Herbalism/Alchemy ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

since this will be my first Warrior on a Vanilla server (actually my first warrior ever) I am not sure what professions to choose.

I always was quite pleased with herb/alchemy since flasks and potions will be needed in the endgame.
But afaik blacksmithing was more valuable in vanilla than in later expansion? or am I wrong?

Therefore I think about going for mining/blacksmith (armor spec) instead.

Any thoughts about this? Good idea? Bad idea? Any personal preferences?

You can never go wrong with Herbalism and Alchemy on any character.

Mining would be a good source for money too, tho if you decide to pick blacksmith with it you wont sell that much. Its a long and weary way to level the skill and personally i dont think it is worth the effort. At the start of your journey you can smith some neat items but will soon need materials you wont find randomly while leveling. Blacksmith is only interesting for those who want to craft Sulfuron, or want the Arvanite Reaper to start their pvp-career as arms. Drops are generally better in the Endgame.

Speaking from memory here. Has been a while since i played Vanilla. :)

If you are a Officer or anything like that in a Guild Yes sure you can make Money on BS/mining but if your not that dedicated to the proffesion i would advise you not to go Black smith.

Alchemy is a sweet thing but with so many ppl on the server the tip from making pots is pretty low.

my advise for warriors is to go Engeneering and Mining since you can make a awesome shield for your self ( one of the best in the game for AOE tanking) and you can craft tons of stuff to help yourself in PvP witch will help you enjoy pvp ALOT more since Low gear Warriors is Pretty фекал in pvp :D.

but if you really want Herb/ alchemy and find a joy in crafting your stuff by your self ofc go with that :) but stay away from BS :)

I'd say go Herb/Alch or Mining/Engi. Both have great benefits for Warriors.

Herb/Alch is better for helping others, and better for making mone, while Alchemy Transmutes are money in the bank.

Engineering is arguably much more fun though. I've leveled multiple Warriors, two with Herb/Alch (Vanilla) one with Mine/BS (TBC) and then a couple on Nost, one as Engineer. You will always have benefits from Alchemy, it takes a bit of work to make Engineering worth it - but it will be if you work at it. Engineering fills in some good parts in a Warrior's arsenal for both tanking and PvP. I'd say if you're planning on PvE a lot you'd get more benefit from Alchemy, while for more PvP I'd say Engineering. Overall though, Alchemy is one of the most useful professions in the game, so you can't go wrong with either.

Alchemy herb. See my advice in the leveling guide.

Pretty much you Will always have hp options. +str/agility potions, armor pots, underwater breathing for a few quest needed, mana pots to give your 5man healer. You will die MUCH less.

Once you are 60 you can drop ONE of the professions for engineering. Do not drop your professions until you have enough gold to power level 1-300 engineering and buy your shield (if you plan on tanking). Grenades and other engineering items are needed for competitive end game PvP as well.

As stated above if you are an officer and dedicated you can make good money with BS. The elematal sharpening stone recipe and boe epic helm and legs can get sell for quite a bit. But you will need to pull some strings to get those recipes.

On nost the Engineering shield scales with spellpower, which makes it incredibly strong if you use it correctly. Honestly you just get the shield + zg hero charm and that combo lets you keep agro very effectively on aoe threat.
