Frost Mage PVP Situation Question

Recommended Posts

So I played other classes and only started playing Frost Mage in retail after the Frost Mage had a water elemental at his disposal. When fighting a rogue in pvp, you would use your pets freeze as a way to freeze a rogue while you are stunned.

How would you survive a rogue in vanilla? Would a quick frost nova be sufficient or would you be dead before getting out of stun?

They should be slowed from hitting your ice armor, so blink and then kite. If they get close again, frost nova + pound as fast as possible for shatter bonus, then continue kiting. If they get within melee distance again you'll probably lose, because blink's cooldown is long enough to get stunned again and die.

Keep rank 1 Fireball on hand for a quick DoT to make it more difficult to restealth. Also keep Rank 1 Blizzard for a quick AoE to get them out of stealth if they Vanish without any DoTs. Learn how to kite using Cone of Cold and practice using Frost Nova without being in Melee range. Oh yeah and also keep a Rank 1 Arcane Explosion on your bars.

Rogues are relatively easy for a competent Frost Mage. If you're out of CD's IE Ice block and blink etc, then you're likely in for a world of hurt if they get ahold of you.

^ This. Also I never used (or even bought) more than rank 1 frost nova; the freeze duration never changes.

Rank 1 frostbolt and Frostbite talent is awesome vs melee classes. With cast speed talent I believe R1 Frostbolt is a .5 second cast, guaranteed to slow and chance to snare.

Ice Barrier/Mana shield should get you through a stun as well if you don't want to burn blink/ice block.  Level engineering and use iron grenades as well, compliment mages so well.
