Lynx 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2016 Is leveling as a fire mage doable? I know frost is the better option but it kind of bores me.
ZaWarudo 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2016 Frost has better control and AOE farming , but you are on Nost you are never gonna find the great AOE groups ( they are farmed ) , and do you really need a lot of control when there is this population ? So that's it , in Nost you can level as Fire with no problem at all
Trynux 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2016 Im leveling my mage on Fire since lvl 10. Just reached lvl 48 yesterday. I must say you can level just fine as Fire, you might have more problem against higher lvl mobs than the frost, but again doable for sure. I would advice you to get some Fire Spell gear thats the "of fiery wrath" helps alot.just lookout for certain zones when you level up like searing gorge with alot of mobs having high fire resistens and even fire Immunity.
Patchi 4 Report post Posted December 24, 2016 Fire mage, if you're solely questing, is a lot of fun. But if you're planning to AOE grind mobs at all, frost is obviously the better option. But Fire Mage is a lot of fun to just quest with.
thiella 1 Report post Posted January 12, 2017 Fire mage is fine for leveling and maybe more fun from frost. Also you learn 2 levels earlier the fireball spells and this is a little boost. In fact until you learn Shatter 4/5 or 5/5 (around level 28-30) fire is superior from frost and many mages level as fire mages and switch to frost when they have full Shatter. But you will 2 problems as fire. First, if you are playing at pvp server you may have hard time with enemy rogues and warriors. Second, most likely you will have to respec as frost when you want to quest at Searing Gorge and Burning Steps because most mobs there are immune to fire spells (otherwise you have to find a party to do those quests).
Cipherr 1 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 Im I think 49 now, and its been a breeze as fire. 3 casts to kill a mob is great with all the crit and ignite. I prefer it for leveling frost because you cannot EVER get an AoE leveling spot to yourself. Fireball is almost double the damage delve as frostbolt is at my level. It hits HARD. If you plan to level by questing and running dungeons I highly recommend it over frost for these servers. Im on PvE though, if you are on PvP you probably need the frost stuff just to protect from ganks.
Moonguard 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Hey, I am also leveling as fire on the newest opened realm. I have some experience as a mage but never leveled as fire so may I ask for a link to your spec? I am only level 17 so what Ive got so far is improved fireball and few points on ignite (rarely procs due to low crit %). I think I will continue as fire up to around 30 where I will be leveling in more contested zones. Cheers
LEEF 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Leveling much within a group. Doing dungeons a lot. Should I go fire or frost? I don't mind either. Just want high dps and low down time.
Xom 8 Report post Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) I always go fire. It's wonderful. I played fire back in retail from 1-60 & then with TBC to 70. Only respecced for progression Rag/Nef nights. Since everyone goes Frost, I find most people are super stoked to have a fire mage in their group since it's a novelty and "how refreshing" as some have said. I heard the same and am leveling fire. However, come MC time it's "bye bye fire" and "hello frost" until much later content is released.
gotmilk0112 10 Report post Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Fire leveling isn't bad, it's just Frost is so much more efficient, and gives you a shitload more survivability. If you're just looking at tooltips, Fire may look like it has higher DPS, but you run into the problem of your kill speed being dictated by crits. Yeah, if you get good crit RNG you can nuke shit down in 4 or 5 casts, but if you don't get crits, you're fucked. Yeah, if you get a crit Pyroblast, you'll take down like 40% of the mob's health, but...fire only gets up to around 13-14% crit, with talents + crit% from intellect. Compared to frost, where you get +50% crit chance on frozen mobs, with two ways to freeze them. (15% chance Frostbite, and Frost Nova), as well as a talent that gives increased crit damage, giving a little more damage than Ignite. (Ice Shards gives +50% damage on crits, Ignite gives +40% extra damage on crits) And with Fire, you'll always be 3 talent points behind, because of having to put 3 points into the Frost tree for the 6% spell hit talent. I tried both specs quite a bit throughout my leveling on Kronos, and found Frost to be so much better. Even moreso on a PvP server, you will just destroy people and easily out-play anyone who tries to gank you, outside of Warlocks. There's a reason why almost every leveling mage is Frost: It's just overall the better spec for leveling. Fire isn't bad at all, Frost is just better. Since Fire is so reliant on crits, it is best suited for AQ/Naxx where you have shitloads of crit gear. (and mobs aren't immune to fire) Edited January 20, 2017 by gotmilk0112
