I will never go crawling back to blizzard for legacy. I don't want to support them or be dictated by them in any form or fashion. How anyone could want to go back to blizzard after everything they've put us through? Have we not learned our lesson yet? There's an old saying, don't cast your pearls before swine. Do we really need to get back on the blizzard bandwagon again until we remember who's steering the reigns. Blizzard will gentrify vanilla just like they have with everything else. It will T-bone the community and split them in two. Official blizzard legacy servers would be the worst thing that could happen to vanilla. I would only play official legacy servers if its right's of ownership was sold and in someone else's hands. I'm not gonna watch blizzard kill world of warcraft again. Blizzard, you're dead to me.

i agree, Blizzard legacy realms would no doubt be ridden with microtransactions and modern changes and all the same cross-server stuff they have at the moment.

if Blizz actually made real vanilla servers I would pay to use them but its never gonna happen. I do not believe in this "cause" that Nostalrius & Elysium claim to strive for.

I understand where you're coming from. But at the end of the day, you're playing a blizzard game. Just sayin

If Blizzard releases a true 100% vanilla 1.12 realm, I'd gladly play on it. I'd gladly pay $15/month to play on it. You know why?

 

-Perfect scripting

-No lag/disconnect/unstable server

-No high latency due to server being in Europe

-Lots of active GMs to respond to ingame tickets

-No threat of being shut down

-No bugged spells/abilities

-No bugged mobs

-No broken/nonfunctional quests

-No having to deal with non-English speakers (no hate, I just don't like having to deal with people who can barely speak English, makes group content kinda tough)

-Vanilla community in one place, instead of being scattered across 50+ private servers

 

There are so many benefits.

 

Now, before you cry "ZOMG BLIZZARD FANBOY!!!!!!" at me, I'm going to tell you that Blizzard is not being silent on this issue out of spite, they're not sitting in their evil lair laughing at us, they can't just flip a switch and instantly have vanilla servers online. They are not attacking private servers because they hate fun, they're attacking private servers because they are legally required to defend their intellectual property, or else they risk losing rights to it.

 

Remember that they are a massive, multi-billion-dollar game dev, and they also have stockholders and parent companies to answer to. A decision as large as hosting an old version of their biggest and most popular game is not just something they can do overnight, especially after years and years of "We have no plans to release legacy servers at this time".

 

And yeah, the vanilla community still kind of is a minority compared to retail. Retail still has at least 2-3 million active subs, while vanilla private servers are maybe 100-200k. At the moment, we're not really enough of a fanbase to really justify all the money/effort spent on official vanilla realms. But once retail starts dropping off and subs slip below 1mil, Blizzard will likely begin to seriously consider it. Even as it is right now, they seem to be moving away from WoW as their main cash cow. Hearthstone is making way more money, reportedly.

Blizzard has gone in a different direction under their new management, I personally don't consider them to be the blizzard that made wow as I know and love.

Just have fun playing the game today and be thankful, that's all you can do. Most of us don't know the whole story yet, and maybe the whole thing will never come out. I'm just glad this whole thing if free and available to so many of us Vanilla enthusiasts around the world. The amazing journey continues!

No, I think he's saying that Blizzard has legal people who apparently have no end to the lengths they will go to be a massive douchebag when it comes to private servers. They are literally trying hard to break up this community.

Gotmilk0112 hit the nail on the head.

The only long term solution to this is through Blizzard.

There are so many plusses to legacy under Blizzard rather than through private servers.

We can't keep relying on volunteers time and there ability to withstand legal threats.

Blizzard were always going to release legacy realms , but they want to do it in their own time when it suits them. Nostralius and now Elysium have given them something major to think about.
