Nehmerio 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2017 Hi there, I really enjoy playing Prot and was wondering how viable it was for levelling. I know that obviously it will be slower, but I don't really care if it is slower, I'm mainly here to have fun. The question is, is it viable at all outside of group content or will I struggle even with normal mobs around my own level? Sorry if this is an obvious question, but thanks in advance.
KonigsTiger 2 Report post Posted January 16, 2017 You will have fun for like, half an hour maybe? then you will experience a endless pain and depression. Don´t get me wrong, you can do it, but it´s not viable at all. You will take forever to kill a mob, and it´s not like you need to be prot to tank instances until you hit BRD or so. There is just no reason to do it over fury or arms.
Squeaky_Wheel 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2017 I have leveled to 60 as protection spec from the first talent point. it is slow but possible. 1 mob is ok even if it is higher level than you, but two mobs is hard, three mobs impossible. sometimes it is frustrating because if you have to clear the way to some objective the mobs behind you will respawn before you move on. while leveling; as soon as you can use dual wield use it instead of two handers, 3/3 improved revenge makes sword n broad style cool again, shield bash casters etc... .

So I would not be greatly handicapped doing group content (tanking instances) as for example Fury?

That´s the thing, you wont be handicapped taking instances as fury. Prot is a must for endgame dungeons, like BRD, strath, etc. Of course that a prot warr will have an easier time tanking instances like SM, BRD and ZF, but it´s not required. You will spend more time doing outdoor content than instances.

Fury is actually pretty great for tanking 5mans when lvling due to enrage/flurry.
Volatle 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Leveling as protection will be terrible. Reason 1 - Warriors need RAGE to kill. I'm leveling with mostly fury. Once you get Enrage talent. You'll see an decrease in killing time. It's huge. I might go Arm's at 39 for M/S. fury tree 0/5 0/5 0/1/3/5* *max enrage and get death wish before adding more than 1 talent into improved battle shout 0/0/5 0/1/0 0/5 1 I'm leveling everything 2-3hr's. But i doddle around and do instances sometimes. Keep ahead as a warrior. If the zone requires 23, i'd rather be 25+. KILL EVERYTHING in your path. Group only when the area quest is packed. Un-group when running the quest to get max xp off solo mobs. I'm currently 28. This is working for me. Hope it helps. *Edit When tanking, you need rage. Only way to get that is with fury IMO while leveling. Instances are easy if you pull right. Edited January 17, 2017 by Volatle
Porta 10 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) Mb its fun after 45ish with 25 rage preservation from arms and far enough into prot for imp revenge and conc. but I doubt its effective anyway. Its not like you can sudden do things an arms or fury cant do pre 60. Edited January 24, 2017 by Porta
Garun 9 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) I'd say as a guy that leveled a warrior on each nost server that it's far easier to level as 2H fury or arms and have a good 1H and shield in your bags (you might need to grind up weapon skill if your weapon skill is 50+ below it's max) as you can get away with tanking as fury in 5-mans without much trouble, though I recommend going prot when at level 58 and start grinding BRD for BiS gear if you plan on tanking. I started the gearing grind at 58 for my PvP warrior and 57 for my PvE warrior (though I wouldn't do 57 again). Heck, I would go prot when gearing up so you can tank even if you plan to go fury since tanking is a far better way to get gear, and you can roll on dps gear as a tank if you let them know beforehand.
