Whisper restriction and gold sellers

I understand why normal players are not able to whisper or write in general chat, until they hit level 8.

But why can gold sellers contact me with level 1 characters?

The whole situation is very strange. I tested a few exploration routes on Nostalrius-PvP before the launch of Elysium and every day I played there, I received maybe 8-12 messages from 4 or 5 different characters over a few hours. Now on Elysium there is almost no gold spam, but with a few, very remarkable exceptions:

- Two different characters, (both level 1) are sending me the same gold spam message at the same time (this happened 2 or 3 times since the launch)

- AFK level 1 character sending spam message, advertising gold and power leveling (2 times since launch)

- Blue text in trade chat, character appears to be offline (2 times since launch)

are you refering to whisper restriction (.wr on)?

afaik, if its on, it only allows friends and guild members to whisper you. if its off, everyone can.

imo, there should be another mode for it, that allows all whispers but from ppl level <X. and this should be on by default

I haven't gotten a single gold spam in like 4 days now. Plenty of mails, but no whispers.

 

I did get whispers about a powerleveling service however, and even though I filtered words from it with SpamThrottle, somehow it came through two more times.

yep i agree it should be restricted that you can only whisper someone at lvl 10 unless you are on their friends list or in the guild with them

there is no restriction on whispers, only global chat channels. If you're struggling to whisper people maybe they're just ignoring you ;)

Best thing to do is get SpamThrottle and add filters as you go along. It helps but really stopping gold sellers from messaging you is an art form.
