Can a prot pally manage to tank all the 5-man dungeons?

Recommended Posts

As the tile says, I know paladins lack some fundamentals to be compared to warriors as tanks, mostly the lack of taunt if I recall correctly, but could they be used as tank at least in the 5-man dungeons and off-tanking in raids?

You can tank the 5 mans just fine as a paladin. Heck, you are arguably better than warriors due to having real AoE threat and not crappy shouts that barely keep them off the healer. As for off-tanking in raids, there are actually some situations (though not many) where a pally OT is better than a warrior OT like the draknids on Nefarian since there are so many. However, you will almost certainly have to be able to effectively heal and off-tanking will be a utility of yours instead of a role. What I mean by this is the chances of you getting a spot as a set tank like a prot warrior is extremely low.

Thank you this info, I was wondering to try for the first time ever to play as Paladin and to tank 5mans / UBRS.

I see now that it doesn't need to be suicidal. :)

From Vanilla days I remember tankadin friend hard working to collect warriors' gear for tanking (including Valor). Is it like that at lev 60?

I can't find a sticky here with suggested specs as prot, can you suggest anything?

Theloras and Killerduki have TONS of information on the paladin forums. I wonder if a Community manager could give you 2 some type of Moderator for the Paladin Subsection. Add stickies and delete my duplicate posts (I must have been lagging)

we all have had sticky posts over the year on multiple vanilla projects. you have to have the players report post to get stickies.

We used pala as solo tank in UBRS full runs last week and was smooth. Ofc, shit died fast with 5 rogues but there would be any problem in a more normal setup either. I still have my concerns about blizzards dev teams mental Health status when they decided to not give 1 of the tank specs a taunt but...
