Seems like a lot of people

Recommended Posts

On my server are able to get their level 40 mounts RIGHT at level 40, lol.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel it's just a coincidence that people have enough money for their professions, mount, and gear by level 40.

Now I've spent a ton, I maybe would have had 45-50g by now. But nowhere near 80-90g for a mount.

Any theories as to how these people are affording everything? Are Chinese sellers really that bad?

I had no problem getting my mount at 40 as a warrior. I didnt buy unnecessary spells, used AH alot and between 36-40 i farmed mats that sold well on the AH. maybe some tip for you.

Dont buy spells like eye of kilrogg or beast eye..

Not like Warlocks need to spend any money on their mount anyways so go ahead and buy eye of kilrogg if you feel like it.

You simply just need to get better at making gold in WoW instead of suspecting everybody to be a gold buyer.

I remember like a year ago on some server where people were wondering the same thing you're wondering. Turned out they never looted any grays from the mobs because they thought they were just a waste of space.

I also remember a random guy I spoke to when K2 opened. He told me how he was making gold and he had the mount money by like lvl 15...or was it 10. And no, that wasn't by buying gold from Chinese.

There are tons of ways to make that gold. If you "just play the game" without even trying to make gold somehow, then you're not going to be able to afford the mount. Simple as that.

When old Nost had just opened, when I got to lvl 40 I bought mount, 14 slot bags, all the spells I'd skipped and upgraded my gear and I still had like 20g left. And all I did to get this gold was killed a ton of mobs, sold their grays and vendored the leathers I skinned.

100g by level 10 or 15 is definitely suspicious. The only way that'd be possible is if he spent all his time gathering herbs/ores and didn't actually level, just sat at level 10 for days while farming and selling everything on the AH.

Nah it was in the first few days of K2 and it was enchanting he used. Imagine all those casters who want wands asap, especially priests.

Could ofc be that I remember the amounts and days wrong, but it was loads more gold than I've had by that time.

Well I mean I wouldn't exactly count those ways, because then you could've just you know, spent that time leveling and you'd be higher level and have the amount of gold to buy your mount anyway.

Want 100g by 40 ok

1.Pick up everything
2.Sell Grey to vendor and whites to AH
3.Resell your stuff to AH if the auction expires and at the same time put the new stuff you found
4.Do not make everything a 24h auction, the cost might not worth it
5.Get a gathering profession
6.Do NOT get a crafting profession
7.Get 2 gathering professions and drop one later
8.Farm mobs - Some mobs have better loot in cloth or items, if your class can farm them well, stay and grind a level or two there
9.Do not buy Skills you do not need, they are a huge gold sink
10.Do not res on the spirit healer, repair bills mount up
11.If you have green-grey easy quests go do them, XP might suck but gold reward does not
12. If you are a caster use lower grade water or get a mage to make some for you
13. Do NOT buy gear from AH, before you check awow for gear at your level, that is a quest reward. Then go do that quest or instance
14. Do not buy stuff as a general rule
15.Trying to sell services such as portals and summons and waters is not time efficient. Go grind mobs

That's all I could think of

Well I have been playing WoW for 11 years now, and it was still quite difficult for me to get the mount at level 40 in Nost. By "difficult" I mean that I did everything right and used AH a lot.

So there you have it. It is by design that getting a mount is really hard.

Back in Vanilla around 2005, there were plenty of people that didn't make the cut and went around in ghost wolf form, travel form and aspect of the cheetah/pack until level 50 or so.

You shouldn't feel bad about it. This is the original vanilla experience.

Honorable mention: I didn't get an epic mount until late 2006, and the only reason I managed to afford one was that I joined an LBRS run out of sheer luck, and the Tank was a raider from a raid guild and quite knowledgeable with the game, and it so happened that the recipee for Greater Fire Protection Potion dropped and I won the greed roll. I would have still vendored it for 1g 50s or so, but the Tank (whose name I don't recall) told me to put it up on AH for 650g assuring me that one of the Guild Banks of one of the raiding guilds my server had (Nordrassil) would buy it, and so it happened.

If it wasn't for that guy, I would never even manage to get my hands on an epic mount for the whole of vanilla, which was pretty much the norm.

I had my mount at 40.  Lots of grinding, crafting, selling at AH or vendoring said crafted gear.  Also as others have said, don't buy every single skill from your trainer, only buy the ones you will actually use a lot.  I also make use of all meat and cooking ingredients I find.  This meat alone sells for very little, but once you cook it, it's worth a lot more, even if you just vendor it.

There is very little you should need to buy whilst levelling so the only thing you should really be spending money on are skills from your trainer and the odd item from the crafting vendors in order to keep improving your crafting.

-Loot everything, vendor/AH everything

-Don't train unnecessary skills

-Skinning + Herb or Mining

-Get mage food/water before you go out questing

Even on my warrior, I had nearly 60g by level 40, and I wasn't even farming or grinding at all.

usually its because they are farming gold which slows down their leveling. sure they get their mount on 40, but if they haven't farmed they would be like lvl 45 instead and could buy their mount with gold from quests / standard playing. ppl just do stupid things like that for example camping the centaur mob in barrens when there are 4 groups waiting for respawn already instead of just skipping the quest...

Well I do all professions during leveling so I dont make much money. I guess Ill have it at 50 level maybe

I got most of my money by circling around Feralas, killing all wolves and bears, skinning them, using the leather to craft and the meat for cooking.  Vendoring or using AH netted me the money I needed for my mount.  My point is, it's possible to make money and skill up crafting at the same time.  There are probably faster ways, but this worked for me and I had my mount at exactly level 40.  You just have to put in the time.

People have just learned how to get money from their mount instead of wasting it. There's tons of skills that don't need more then rank 1 and some of them not at all that. By not purchasing them you save a TON of gold. On top of that people use skinning to vendor leather combined with certain animals dropping multiple drops worth a few silver it really adds up. If you can't afford your mount right at 40 you just don't know what you are doing is all.
