Is this allowed?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if you're allowed to use 3rd party programs that simulate user input and to what extent.

For example:

— a script that would type my account name and password when I launch the game

— a script that would instantly type /target with a space in chat so I could type the rest.

I am using this, but now that I've read some GM's posts I thought it might be considered cheating, so want to make sure. Any responce from the team would be very appreciared.

In my personal opinion, this shouldn't be a problem since there are many addons that give a much bigger advantage, but it's not up to me to decide.

PS: all of these scripts are activated by the user, e.g. I press a button and the script launches, so it's not like botting.

Third party programs that simulate keystrokes are not permitted.

You can type /tar if /target is too much for you

Most scripts if not all are not allowed, on a side note though needing one because /target is too hard is laughable.

Btw you can use this script for login, bcz you are technically not on sever so.

I thought it should be okay too, but I can live without it, even though I like to switch between my two accounts frequently.

It's not. Being able to quickly target someone you see tracked on a mini-map is very useful. Luckily I've come across an addon that allows to do that (thanks to фткyн).

I use the macro keys on my keyboard to type in my password every time I log in. I cannot imagine it would throw up a red flag before you even log into the server.

or, you know, just click the person.

I see no need to target a player that's not your range or group.

Anymore? did you just admit a crime? lol

A crime? No.

Did I break the rules? Apparently so. I mentioned I was using it in the very first post of this thread. At least I'm being honest about it and saying as it is.

Did you think I said it by accident and "gave myself away"? Now that's a lol.

As I said, I don't think its cheating, but I always respect the rules of the server I'm playing on, so if its not ok - I won't do that.

Yes. Cheating by using peripherals and third party software to compensate for lack of skill or to mitigate difficulty has been around sine they added turbo-fire switches to joysticks. Doesn't mean it isn't cheating.

On Nostalrius I questioned a moderator regarding this, so I will pose the same issue here. How does this relate to infinite scrolling mouse wheels? With one you can input over 100 commands a second, while this may not seem like a useful feature, if bound to a skill that is spammed (shadowbolt, frostbolt, etc) it can actually allow a person to cast one or two extra spells over the course of a boss fight. How should something like this be treated?

I'd guess since the input is "natural" and not simulated, it should be fine to use a mouse wheel.

Btw when i played on old nost i used things like that, have keyboard and mouse with macro, if you don't abusing this none  will ban you, i think.

But there was a thread where guy got ban for this, he just made macro( mouse macro) for spamming right key with shift, he  placed his rogue near chest, there chests inside cave at searing gorge that have low respawn time

If you're caught using any kind of external tool - hardware or software - to unfairly gain advantage in the game or to negate or bypass mechanics or design, you will be banned. This is the default catch-all rule. It doesn't matter how you achieve it, if you are caught doing it, you'll be banned.

It is not our obligation to force you to play the game fairly, it's your responsibility to do so - and to accept the consequences should you get caught not doing so.

so using the tools isn't against the rules by itself, it has to be used to "negate or bypass mechanics or design"

Software like AutoHotkey has a lot of legitimate uses. Banning based on if you have that particular software running would be very silly.

I don't think they'll do that, they only track something affecting the game.

I have binded capslock to change my keyboard layout, I'm pretty sure I won't get banned for that (hope so, lol, because I'm pretty addicted to that function).
