Dizeliun 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2017 SOLUTION: Simply increase the minimum amount of items to be worth over 1Gold when sending mails outside your own account. LOGIC: People rarely send in-game mails to each other in 2017. We all use discord. In-game mails were a way to reach people you couldn't contact immediately back when cellphones weren't a thing. People sending mail between their ALTs shouldnt need to worry about this gold-floor minimum. People sending mail between each other usually are sending stacks of consumables or gold, thus 1G (worth of items or gold combined) should be the minimum sending rate. RESULT: Gold spammers who want to send you mail will either be giving you free gold and bankrupting themselves. Or simply not sending the spam in the first place.

Emptora 17 Report post Posted March 16, 2017 Not Blizzlike. If this was the case, you couldn't send a stack of linen cloth.
metagame 8 Report post Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) I think a better solution is to add a feature to the mail system where you are required to send a few silver as a deposit to the recipient who can send it back upon getting the mail. For friends mailing each other, the silver will most likely be returned, and for sending mail to your own alts you can always send the deposit back to your main. You can get complex with this solution to improve it; disable the deposit requirement for friends who have each other on their Friends List because no gold spammer would be on a real player's Friends List. You can also increase the deposit requirement for low level players, and the deposit requirement could ease as you level up. Characters lower than level 20 are not going to be sending much mail to random people anyway (bank alts can have your main char on its friends list, and thus not be required to make a deposit). Level 40+ characters could be exempt completely from the deposit requirement. This would make mailbox spamming more costly for gold spammers, and also work against their objective because if they chose to eat the cost they would be simultaneously chewing away at their own bottom line. Emptora 17 Report post Posted March 16, 2017 I think the better solution would be for people to stop buying gold. It would be two-fold. 1.) You wouldn't have people selling it. Believe it or not, its legal to sell dogshit. But because nobody buys it, nobody sells its. 2.) The ban appeal forum would be dead. We wouldn't have 250 posts every 2 months that says "Why'd I get banned... I've NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER bought gold before."

Doesn't matter if it's not blizzlike when its a problem that was not seen in retail. Just because there is a new problem, actively ignoring the issue since big daddy Blizzard didn't do it is the worst logic ever.

Does not matter how many times you tell people to not buy gold, they will buy gold. You need to actively defend against it in order to help reduce it.
Emptora 17 Report post Posted March 18, 2017 As time goes on, more people will get banned for buying gold. It may take 6 more months, but eventually most the gold buyers will be banned.

IP masks, proxies and a plethora of other methods would be employed to get around it for both the people being banned and the farmers selling the gold. So long as a market exists where people buy gold, you will always have someone there to fill the gap and supply it. Hence the term "Supply and Demand". Emptora 17 Report post Posted March 18, 2017 Its not feasible. You level something up to 60, it gets banned... You level something to 60... it gets banned... How many times are you going to dump 3 or 4 weeks into leveling something. You'll either learn or tire. Yes, people will be able to find ways to connect to the server. But people are gonna run out of patience. The gold sellers won't run out of means to connect to the server, they'll run out of people who will buy.

If people stopped buying gold, it would just keep getting cheaper and cheaper and cheaper; 100g for $5, then 150g for $5, then 300g for $5... Eventually, some dumbass will be tempted to buy gold. It's inevitable. The best we can do is permaban anyone involved in buying/selling gold, and do our best to slow the in-game spam.
