Monopoly is a problem related to goldselling

Recommended Posts

This game was designed to prevent cross-faction communication because this can lead to a situation of monopoly.

Here's how people can exploit cross-faction communication to safely sell gold for real money:

1) Create a monopoly over an item X by exploiting the game mechanic that prevents same-faction players from attacking you. For example, you can sheep your other-faction-allies to heal them... or you can safely spot&report a same-faction rogue in stealth.

2) Set a fixed price for it (26g) in AH. By doing this, you actually create another currency. If you fix its price at 26g, the first one who sells a single piece for 25g will have a 100% successful auction.

3) Sell gold for real money by trading item X to your customer and asking him to sell it on AH for 25g. This method prevents GMs from tracking: they can get you if you buy gold which comes from stolen accounts or botting.

4) By trading 4 items, you've sold 100 gold. And none will notice it. Safe goldselling. None risks a ban.

5) Pay someone with real money to secure your monopoly: you ask them to be ready to login&gank/(and exploit the  mechanics that prevents players from attacking same-faction people) at different hours: when there's no need to gank, they can just dedicate themselves to power-leveling someone else's character (for real money ofc). None should be able to influence the price of item X because it's the currency of this goldselling market.

Average players can't compete with PAID pros who earn dollars from playing. You can't just say "find some friends and fight them" because the game is designed so that I can socialize with same-faction players only: either provide an in-game tool to make friends with the opposite faction, or ...

They can't keep Un'Goro filled with level 60 characters of both factions 24/7 because that would ruin profits... so they exploit the game mechanic that prevents same-faction players from attacking them.

6) Sell gold ( that you don't even have to farm ) w/o risks by spamming general chat and legitimately say that your method is safe.

That's why vanilla-wow monopoly is dangerous: better to turn Un'Goro into an arena-like zone than having those people exploiting the fact that players can't attack  same-faction players who cooperates with the opposite faction.

@Fladrif is a known gold seller, and is posting this thread to deflect scrutiny from his gold-selling empire.

But.. On my realm my guild almost always dominates the devilsaurs.. I don't want that to change.

Stop bullshitting and get a glass of water to soothe all that salt in your mouth.

Literally every dedicated crater mafia/cartel/club/circlejerk/whatever member is only there because it's fun in the first place. They play the game mainly for its world pvp aspect and the political shenanigans that controlling a zone like Un'Goro implies.

"PAID professionals" is probably the funniest shit I've heard in a while. Have you ever sat in the same TS as one of the crater overlords either on Elysium or Nost/Anathema ? I can tell you they are just enjoying the game way more than you do. The fact they get a lot of gold is merely a side effect. The entire point is to dominate the place to the point where players like you are so butthurt they either step down/give up or have to organize and fight back.

Keep in mind Un'goro is the most important and funniest BG in vanilla ;)

Just asserting something doesn't make it true, or credible.

You know it's true if you are/were part of any mafia/cartel/club/circlejerk. But yeah, better state assumptions out of dust with literally nothing to back it up like OP rofl.

I mean if you really can't live/play (yeah it's just a game btw :P) with it you can always reroll on a server where there is no competition/no pvp. He wrote down the root of the issue himself "average players can't compete", which implies non average players can. AKA there is a player solution to the player "problem".

Or you can try this instead I guess :

No, not better. But not worse either. If you ask people to accept your baseless assertions, why shouldn't they accept what the OP is asserting? If the motivation is just controlling an area for fun, why not pick Orgrimmar or Stormwind? Why kill the devilsaurs at all?

Get real and realize you're bullshitting. You are making the "baseless assertion" (sorry I couldn't help myself quoting you on this) that these guys are gold sellers : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n3g2g_5vTI

Just looks and sounds like a group of nerds simply enjoying the world pvp (and roleplay lul) aspects of the game to me. It really doesn't look like they need to pay anyone for anything either. Players willingly take part into pvp on a pvp server you know ? :D

I did no such thing. So now we know you have a history of just making stuff up.

To have a guaranteed fixed price on a "Trade good" item in AH makes it possible to use it as an alternative currency. A currency that cannot be subjected to the specific anti-goldsellers methods that GMs use. You can't ban someone for trading a few devilsaur's leathers to a random guy... and you can't ban that random guy for selling them in AH for 25 g each.

If only this community could understand this and how bad it is to allow a monopoly, the game would change for the better.

And if you're serious when you talk about "a solution that comes from players", you should agree that:

  1. this "solution" has always been hypothetical; never seen it "in practice"
  2. players need in-game tools to face the problem caused by people that use third-part software to bypass the specifically-designed limits of cross-faction communication.

Either we discuss those tools (cross-faction chat in Un'Goro, Un'Goro arena, etc...) or we must condemn the exploitations of game mechanics to create monopolies.
