I kinda can't see it being used for botting since AutoIt can't do "IF-ELSE".

Maybe as a Water conjure bot on a mage yes x)

While you could technically make your character do some automated actions with AutoIt, it can't react on anything happening in game, so it would be a blind bot without much use.

However, some posts from some GMs led me to believe such programs are indeed forbidden (even though I think its bullshit since any addon can give a bigger advantage to a player).

Hello!

AutoIt is a common scripting utility for automating simple tasks. I've used it in the past outside of World of Warcraft. It isn't against the rules to have something like this on your desktop or installed or anything... But if you are using it to automate functions in-game? Yes, that would be considered automation of gameplay, or botting. Which is, of course, against the rules.

Hope that clears things up for you.

@Hamblin what about functions that work in game but don't affect the game, like auto-replace "btw" to "by the way" and such? Should be ok IMO, but just making sure.

Autoreplacement ingame is bad idea, because you can have character "Btwarrior", and every time you'd shift-insert his name into chat window, it will be disfigured. Imagine also /tar btw

the first few months of wow were the best, when only very primitive addons existed, nothing like decursive, and barely nobody had hardware a casual could create makros/scripts with. you actually had to play the game it was meant to be played (by the devs). such a great time, many tears.

there should be a hardcore server that does not allow any addons

Let's agree to disagree on that.

It doesn't work like that, don't worry.

I've been using a macro program (Razer Synapse) to type my password ever since the server opened, still not banned.

Pretty sure a GM explicitly said that using automated key stuff to type your password is fine, so long as you don't use it for anything in-game.

Hell, there should be no way for the server to detect you even using macro software at the login screen, since you're not even connected yet.
