Warlock or Mage in PVP?

Recommended Posts

What is most op between Warlock and Mage in Vanilla PVP?

In battleground and world pvp?

I was thinking of rolling a new ranged pvp class?

Thinking.

1.Undead Frost mage

2.Undead Warlock

Will the Mage win over most class in pvp over a warlock?

If im not mistaken.

pvp anti mage class = Hunter and shaman?

pvp anti warlock class = Rogue and warrior?

Thank you

Warlock has alot micromanagement. Always have soul shards in bag, and trust me u lose them fast in PVP. Conjurie healthstone, conjure soulstone, conjure spellstone, control pet, put dots up for every fight. I find that taxing and mage has more fun playstyle for pvp.

I'd go for mage if you know how to play it but then u are fine with either one.

As alliance 60 warlock UD rogues are pain cos you can't have other way out from stunlock than having enough stamina to outlast the damage and then deathcoil. Soul link helps with that but t2 gear alone isnt enough from my experience. Good mages and spriests can be difficult to deal with but usually fine with felhunter.

I've been playing my alliance warlock a lot lately and have been surprised at how much dps/killing blows I've been putting out in bgs.  Rogues are the only class that cause problems but it's not much of an issue overall.  Comparing warlock to mage in bgs I'd say from recent experience that warlock is better for dps because in 3 weeks of doing a lot of bgs I don't think a single mage has gotten more killing blows than me in a game.  In fact pretty much only warriors can keep pace in that regard and even then I still usually get the most.

Shadowpriest is what youre looking for. Theres no stronger 1v1 class.

Among mage and lock, Id saymage is better for short fights and flagcarry, while warlocks bring pressure dmg on organized pvp. Both give nice control and buffs.

As a SP you can also switch to healer if you ever get bored of melting people

SP you go oom within seconds of a fight, with engineering, i could imagine SP being more fun with more CC you have available. The only classes that you should have trouble with as a mage are locks, spriest, and a rogue with all cds, but if we're seeing this in a BG perspective, mages are definitely more fun in the ability to carry the team by flag carrying or sending fireballs and watching them crit in the distance. Pom-pyro annihilates any flag carrier as well, which is something a lock or spriest can't do. Mages have a lot of different fun specs to try out as well, it's not just limited to one, you have elemental, frost, fire, and pom-pyro.

Warlocks are strong against casters and hunters, especially when they are running with a felhunter for spell lock and self dispell but they get shut down by melees quite easily.

Mages are strong against melees but they struggle against casters and hunters.

The gameplay of the two classes is also radically diferent.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference. Try both classes until lvl 20-30, do a few warsongs in chill mode and see which playstyle suit you the best.

Dot and run. Seriously there is no better class when it comes to pvp.

Depends who you're fighting.  If it's a mage, hunter, lock, druid, or priest you run at them (but don't get too close to the priest).  Warrior, rogue and paladin you dot and run (though you dont need run far from a paladin) and depending on the shaman spec you do both.

So warlocks Anti class = Rogue and Warrior and Paladin

Mage anti class = Spriest,Druids,Warlock and Hunters?

So if you look at this. Seem like Warlock would be Better since less Anti-class?

What do you guys think?

Warlocks out dps mages by far in PvP.  Mages have other advantages though with the best cc in the game and they are much better flag runners than a lock in WSG.  Their aoe's are also much better.

The only thing alliance walrlocks have to worry about is stun locking rogues.  Warriors are easily disposed of.

But warlock damage is easier to heal through. So it really depends on the game. Personally, I prefer mages for Defence and Warlocks for offense

Warlocks need gear to perform. They suck dick in early vanilla and become godlike in later patches. I wouldn't bother playing one with the gear that is currently available.

Mages are always good.

lol wut... "warlock anti-class paladin warrior rogue" in vanilla? no. in TBC? warriors and rogues, yes, paladins, still no. In wrath? paladins? yes. rogues no again. warriors still yes.

This is vanilla. Warlocks should not be losing 1v1 to warrior, rogue, or paladin. Use bluebubbler. Stop trying to be fancy with your pups out if you are still getting mauled by every physical damage dealer out there. That is ridiculous. The pup only helps vs other warlocks (very good, strong case for pupp'ing), priests (nigh impossible fight otherwise), and mage (already easiest fight in the game, who cares). But bubbler helps against every BAD fight and turns them into winnable fights. Every warlock complains about rogues, warriors, hunters, but every warlock over-values felpup. Yes, pup is good. Yes on a REAL team, when you have reliable peels to deal with these named threats, pup is a better option to help dispell and spell lock. But for captain soloqueues, which most are, and for being out in the world getting caught, bubbler is far superior and turns fights around.

"warlocks need gear to perform"

another false flag operation in this thread. Disgusting. Yes, with gear, they become VERY strong. But even without gear, the control warlock brings with curse of the TONGUE, FEAR, SkillCoil™ and TROOLOLOL backended sneaky damage, easy ways to keep rogues from performing well (SIPHON LAST 30 SECONDS, GUYS), very much a battlefield disruptor in every way the mage is. But you can blow up feared targets, sheeps get healed. Arguably an added bonus. None of these things require spellpower they are just mechanics of the class spell kits.

"warlock damage is easier to heal thru"

curse of tongues. Shadowbolt. skillcoil. shadowburn. spell lock IF I REALLY MUST my gosh... LOL this thread really delivers

The one true thing so far that has been said is that mages are better flag runners. This part is true. Blinknova is strong.

Locks standing by to peel and interdict efc and cc his healers are on the same team. Both jobs can be fun, depends what style you like more control or more front-end burst damage.
