Horde or Alliance

Recommended Posts

I played in Vanilla but at the time I was only 6-7 years old so I never got passed level 47. At the time the server I played on the only option was Alliance at the time due to the Horde population being simply dead at the time. (Not sure if this was the case in most servers but it definitely was on my old server). Anyways I was just wondering if there was any factional differences in the previous Nost. (For example Horde being more PvP focused and Alliance being more PvE focused). Thanks in advance

If old Nost is anything to go by, the split was reasonably even. 47 Horde - 53 alliance, or around there if I remember the statistics correctly.

There was no specific focus. Everyone did everything. The carnage that went down every day was insane. Horde started out being the dominant force, with Grizlly messing up alliance (Like stopping Nope from doing MC) but then they left and Nope took the reigns. Nope vs Dreamstate is actually a meme on Old Nost, but Nope definately had the edge in aggression.

Here is an example:

Edit: It wasn't just those two guilds btw. But I would say they are the most notable ones.

Horde is superior in PvP due to racials and starting position in AV.

Alliance is superior in PvE due to paladinbuffs and easier/closer access to raids from Capital cities.

Some would argue that Shamans makes horde better once you get into AQ/Naxx, they are probably right too.

Yah I remember that being a huge thing, like roll horde for pvp roll alliance for pve. At the same time though asking questions about old nost is probably almost irrelevant considering that they're going to have a huge mix of different players coming from different places. ie: people who never played nost (me) which I feel is going to be a large majority considering I didn't even know what Nost was until the "Shut down hype train" came in. And obviously new players are going to play on the fresh start server so we're not so far behind on content. I'm just not entirely sure what to play on though because we all want to be on the most popular server. I feel its going to be pretty awkward the first few months until everyone decides what the main server is kind of like what happened on Kronos.

From what I've been reading I'm not so sure about that. It seems like its the old school Nost players vs the new school nost players and they're both going to be split up. I'm just not sure how to judge which is the wiser server to join as a newbie. But yah I agree for the most part I feel like it will all settle in eventually. I might wait a few weeks before leveling a character

Not including the community that Elysium already had. Which I have no clue about

Alliance is the better faction at 60, dungeons, raids, organized PVP, there's no contest, and it's why it'll have more players. Retail always had more Alliance, and private servers follow suit, more people roll the better faction. This didn't change until BC, where Blizzard decided to throw Horde a bone and balance the game, thus more players started playing Horde.

But this doesn't make Horde pointless. Horde does get a better leveling road, which includes faster traveling, shorter distances to every dungeon, and the dungeons themselves are in Horde protected zones, which is helpful when you're on PVP. Other players simply enjoy rolling on the harder faction. It will make your accomplishments more meaningful, vs them being mostly moot as Alliance. When Alliance has server first kills and sets clear records, it's like "who cares", when Horde sets them, it's like, "damn that guild is good".

Personally though I prefer Horde just because I like the races. I don't care who is better at what. My Rogue for example is Undead, which is worse off vs... damn near every other race that can pick it (except Gnome haha), but I play it anyway because I LIKE THE RACE. I also like raiding and not being surrounded by elves and midgets, all of which I hate. Seeing a Gnome MT bosses is probably funny though.

Were you around when Grizzly (#1 Horde guild before they quit) bullied Nope (Alliance #1 guild) as if Nope was the ginger fat kid at school? I have seen you on the Nost forums but I am not sure you remember this.

It has always come down to the players behind the keyboard...

Yes I remember the Grizzly pricks. They were on my faction, and we hated them as much as the Alliance. Their bullying mostly came down to having superior numbers though, or going after PVE guilds. It was a massive guild. Skilled players, but committed to being the biggest jackasses on the server, so you were either with them, or wanted nothing to do with them.

Player skill is the biggest factor. Obviously I'd rather have decent Horde than shitty Alliance, but was never the question, and your skill is the same either way. You're not suddenly better at the game for being Horde, nor worse for being Alliance, you're the same either way, simply at an advantage, or disadvantage. Some shitty players might pick the easier side, or better ones picking the worse side, but not everyone does this. Both sides will have plenty of both, along with plenty of others who don't care one way or the other.

From a tanking perspective, having to deal with threat without Salvation and having to stance dance since no fear ward as well as itemizing differently, this greatly increased my tanking skill and approach to raiding and tanking in general vs when i tanked on alliance. Not saying alliance players aren't just as or more skilled than horde players, both have their skilled players. But there is a slight learning curve when raiding horde that changes your perspective and "can" enhance your skills.

But that is only one aspect of the game.
