Vartis 1 Report post Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) I'm sorry if this is a touchy question or has already been asked before but I am curious. Is there any plan or way to keep the server up if it gets big enough for blizzard to want to take it down? I understand that the server being taken down is a risk with private servers but I feel like blizzard might be quicker to act after Nostalrius. Shayss 43 Report post Posted November 19, 2016 Well there is nothing stopping Blizz from sending C&D orders. It comes down to Elysium ignoring them or not. A C&D order is not a shutdown, it only tells the people to stop. Elysium can ignore these. If Blizz does push for legal action (which should be very very hard as this is a non-profit project) then I wouldn't be suprised if Elysium does shut down. Nost chose to shut down. I would like to say that it was part of the gameplan to give vanilla servers exposure but I can't be sure of that. Regardless, that failed and Elysium has no reason to shut down.
Vartis 1 Report post Posted November 19, 2016 Yea i'm not really sure what answer I was expecting. Guess the best we can hope for is that it lasts a while and they manage to stay under the radar.
Drain 19 Report post Posted November 19, 2016 Everyone gets C/D letters. They just ignore them and go right on hosting. Blizzard never takes any of them to court. It's not worth their time or money if the server is hosted in a non DMCA country; aka outside America. They'd have to take you to court to shut the server down. The thing with Nost is, they were gullible, and lived in some kind of childish fairy tale world, where they thought they were hosting with Blizzard's consent or blessing. After realizing they weren't, they sought to get it, or get Blizzard to host. They wanted a peaceful/legal solution, which anyone could have told them, was never going to happen. It's like they've been in a coma for a good 15 years and are suddenly waking up to the modern game industry. Welcome to the real world. They don't give a вау about you, their players, or their own franchise. They just want to print money, and there's no convincing them that recreating Classic will be profitable enough. It'd be like convincing Activision to get another Lost Kingdoms or Vampire The Masquerade; it's not going to ваууing happen. It's not where the money is these days. The money these days is on Call of Duty and Dark Souls. Until the main stream games start to bust; there will be no change. Retail WoW is still trucking on just fine.
arbet 9 Report post Posted November 19, 2016 Blizzard did not take down Nostalrius. They simply sent a C&D (i.e. they asked Nostalrius to shut down) and Nostalrius chose to shut down. Elysium has already said they will not shut down if issued with a C&D request.
killerduki 54 Report post Posted November 20, 2016 Putin is reason why this server is unaffected by Blizzard, other than that is just the will and choice of Nost/Elysium Staff /Kind regards Killerduki

Utherael 3 Report post Posted November 21, 2016 IMHO Blizz would be fighting a losing war at this point.
Draegon 1 Report post Posted November 21, 2016 I do genuinely hope Blizzard will receive the middle finger when that happens and Elysium just moves servers or something.
