Oldschool Mounts

Recommended Posts

sup peepz,

since pre-1.4 mounts will be available ( hi @ troll pop increases by 200% ) again, which is IMHO one of the outstanding features of Nostalrius ( not donation-based mounts ), there's two things I thought of:

- I am rolling Undead and since exalted with Darkspear Trolls cannot be reached pre-1.4, I plan on going for the arctic doggy. All I could find in the interwebz in regards to a guide to reach exalted with Orgrimmar was post-1.4. My question is: did anyone of the old nostalrius players reach exalted with Orgrimmar as an undead in pre-1.4. and could share some guidelines?

- This is a bit offtopic and something for the nostalgia faction over here and not related to how it will take place on the new server. Do you guys know of any incidence on an official blizz server that a player was riding on a mount of the opposing faction? Let me get this theory more clear: When the patch was released, all mounts who required the specific riding skill ( i.e. "Horseriding" ) were changed to only require the standard riding skill ( i.e. "riding"). However, Mounts were also changed from being BoU ( Bound on Usage ) to BoP ( Bound on Pickup ). Now lets face this scenario:

x creates troll, levels to 60 and buys ivory raptor (BoU). x sells the ivory raptor through the neutral AH to a friend, lets say gnome mage y. ofc, y cannot use the mount since he does not have the required riding skill ( i.e. "Raptor-riding" ), but instead has mechanostrider-riding. However, with the new patch, y's riding skill as well as the requirements to use the mount will be changed to the general one (i.e. "riding"). Now, y should be able to use the ivory raptor although he is not exalted with Darkspear Trolls, not even from the same faction.

According to the patch notes, this would have been possible, or am I missing something? I mean sure, that would have ment betting 900g that blizzard would not think about this hole, and thus quite rare among the community. Can someone confirm that somehow? I remember back in 2005 there was a screenshot going around of a gnome mage sitting on an ivory raptor in ( a very crowded ) ironforge. Back in those days PS were basically non-existant and sure as hell not crowded at all, which is why everyone took that screenshot for legit. And yes, this was not the ZG Raptor, since it was clearly a white raptor and as far as I remember, ZG was not released yet.

cheers!

How long will the mounts be available? I plan to roll a gnome but I would love the human old school mount palomino. I can start grinding my rep but it still takes some time.

Tholren, pretty sure the neutral Auction House is been in the game since 2004...

I might have never noticed it before, but I'm almost certain Blizz merged the AHs when WoD released.

EDIT: A simple google search shows you are correct.

"Each faction has it's own AH and the two factions share AHs in neutral territory."

I never knew, huh.

Not quite. There are 3 AHs that are separate from each other: Alliance, Horde and Neutral. You cannot post something in Alliance AH and then buy it in Horde AH. What you can do, is place something in Neutral AH with a human and then buy it with an orc.

The linked AHs just means that the 3 locations for each AH were linked - early in vanilla, IF - SW - Darnassus AHs were each separate for a little while and same with Org - TB - UC ones.

Neutral AHs are in Booty Bay, Gadgetzan and Everlook.

They should be available for a few months(3?) after the fresh server release. It will be enough time to earn enough gold to buy one.

It's a good question. We can do the math.

From Neutral to Friendly requires 3,000 points.

Friendly to Honoured requires 6,000 points.

Honoured to Revered requires 12,000 points.

Revered to Exalted requires 21,000 points.

That's 42,000 points altogether.

If we use Vanillagaming database - which might not be accurate for us - we can scan all quests giving Orgrimmar reputation. There are 230 quests associated with Orgrimmar, though not all of them will be available at Elysium PvP launch. They usually give either 250 or 350 rep a pop. Let's say you have only 200 available at launch:

200 x 250 = 50,000

So I would say that it is possible. Just run to Durotar at level 1 and start doing the orc starting quests. Keep track of quests via the database so you don't miss out on any - remember that when they turn grey, you only get a fraction of the reputation.

For Darkspear Trolls, I believe you're right - there are only 142 quests associated with them and since some of the are cloth donation quests and AV quests, you probably can't hit exalted via questing.

To my knowledge, there is no repeatable quest for either faction before cloth donations.

Morrowgrain...

Morrowgrain is only for Darnassus and Thunder Bluff - not for Orgrimmar or Dark Spear Trolls.

I don't remember if AV was out before or after the removal of the mounts but I found it to be an extremly good place (non AV weekend) to farm rep. Loot all the corpses and handing that stuff in.

Thats how I got my Wolf mount for my UD priest :)

Yes, I incorrectly read like  "there is no repeatable quest for all factions before cloth donations"

Old mounts are gone before Alterac Volley becomes available. AV is a great place to farm rep, that's for sure.

Please tell me more about that updated elysium timeline you havent released yet :). Because the old mounts were still in game when AV launched on the old server, they were kept for a couple patches too much. Am I correct in my assumption that the new server will follow a different timeline then? To my knowledge this hasnt been confirmed yet but stated as a possibility. Will the new server possibly progress faster than nostalrius?

Come on Master pottu, give us some baits!

I can neither confirm nor deny. The timeline for Elysium PvP is not set in stone yet. You are correct that they were available too long on Nost PvP.
