Athena 3 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) Retail impostor detected! I'm going to be honest with you: it was actually on Nostalrius that I set my first steps in BFD. I never did Maraudon or BFD on retail, EVER... Edited December 7, 2016 by Athena
Viv 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 First pug-ish raid to kill rag. brm farming (slowly) Oh snap! Mal'ganis represent. I remember many of the names in your screenshots. I was on the alliance side and very regularly fought them in BGs. I was Revlon, gnome mage.
Xom 8 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 Okay here's a few more for you guys to pick over. So many things happening you'd never see today. Here is a random group of low-level characters raiding Splintertree Post since we'd seen Horde attacking Astranaar for the past weeks, and our dear Auberdine was even attack recently. So many people just ran south with us from Auberdine, some even came from Darnassus who weren't even level 10 yet. They just wanted to fight back against the Horde, since no one knew about anything, it was just about "striking back against their vile touch" and the like. It was probably one of the first times I'd seen Dwarves. You saw all sorts of people saluting one another, /bowing and having little RP conversations about their journey to get to Ashenvale and then charging into battle together. It was really cute when I think back on it now. From January 1, 2005: http://imgur.com/a/XuuDY I'll start posting some more ones from later in Vanilla too, I have some good ones but I need to upload them later.
Demonthese 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 I'm going to be honest with you: it was actually on Nostalrius that I set my first steps in BFD. I never did Maraudon or BFD on retail, EVER... My first character ever in retail I lvled up as Prot. So I must have done every instance like 6+ times lvling in vanilla. If you look at the first screen shot on my original post you will see I was lvl 59 but have all my valor and the desk shield already.
ccsolembum 1 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 Only have a couple of my TBC screenshots from when I was messing around with my UI. My computer back in the day was dogshit and barely managed like 2-5 fps on most fights, <1 being common on some but luckily I picked mage as my starting class and only having to spam one or two buttons made it really easy to keep up; couldn't do any aoe fights though Here it looks like my Ui bugged out and I'm sporting some of my tier 1 for some reason And a more updated UI. By the time that I hit 70 there were only like one or two shoulder drops that were actually better than the mage T3 so I just decided to keep using them because they looked awesome, same with mish'undare. I regularly carried full netherwind in my bags to RP with.

I think it was better than STV since there were larger horde and alliance towns there.
Crowley 8 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 I have a ban warning from Blizzard somewhere, I"ll have to dig it out. It was hiliarous because they would quote your verbal offense and the email had a background like parchment paper or a scroll and so it was something about "raping a sock drawer" looking all fantastical on a magical scroll. I was going to frame it one day.
Jonmang 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 Oh snap! Mal'ganis represent. I remember many of the names in your screenshots. I was on the alliance side and very regularly fought them in BGs. I was Revlon, gnome mage. Yeah I remember that name. You might recognize some of these names too. Sadly I don't have a lot of great screenshots.. Mostly just mildly funny moments in guild chat.

You still talk to any of these people, horde or alliance? Mostly like 4 or 5 from my old guild. I did find myself in a guild with a mal'ganis alliance priest recently, but I completely forget his name

Demonthese 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 This thread brought up a question: will Blizzard ever restore WOW to its former glory? I hope so... They would pretty much have to make an entirely new mmo at this point.

Faith 5 Report post Posted December 7, 2016 They would pretty much have to make an entirely new mmo at this point. Well they could (because Nostalrius helped them get past any of their *oh we don't have assets we can't do this blah blah blah * hurdles) restore Vanilla but it would require a team and some dedication to it. I don't think they will ever do that. I think we'll have to wait around 3 years before any real movement could occur. By that I mean .. 1) Retail is dying so they decide to invest in legacy servers (which they won't do correctly anyway) 2) They decide to start development on a new MMO (Something they should have done a long time ago). 3) The company gets bomb'd by disgruntled Vanilla fans and is no more!! /kidding

Alot of what made vanilla so good was that it was so new and no one really knew what they were doing. People played to have fun at all levels instead of treating lvling like a chore. That the above pictures of the low lvl raid on splinter tree post. I feel like that would be harder to do because people would just see ot as getting in the way of lvling. The only way to recreate the vanilla wow experience is to have a new IP with new mechanics so no one knows what to do and the mystery comes back.

I was at pro level in UT99 player and i still have a ton of those Screen shots but maybe only 1/2 of all of them. I lost a lot of them and had amazing demo vids recorded but back then getting the Engine to replay those demo files meant you had to have the exact same addons installed or files. Everything had to match. Was a real pain. ~ Faith ~ Edited December 7, 2016 by Faith

Just have to make up for it with screenshots and/or videos! Like this on off or first Ra kill on vanillagaming and an amusing video at the end.
