Horde: Undead

They get Devouring Plague which is another DoT (use it with Inner focus for PvP)

They get Touch of Weakness. (not so awsome but it does help with an innitial application of Shadow Weaving in PvP situations and a little bit of reduced physical damage from that target)

They get WoTF. Ridiculous racial that provides immunity to Charm, Fear and Sleep while active. May also be used while already afflicted by Charm, Fear or Sleep. Lasts 5 sec. 2 min cooldown.

Cannibalise: When activated, regenerates 7% of total health every 2 sec for 10 sec. Only works on Humanoid or Undead corpses within 5 yds. Any movement, action, or damage taken while Cannibalizing will cancel the effect.

Alliance: Dwarf

Fear Ward:Targetable buff that makes the target immune to the next fear effect. 30 second CD.
Stoneform: While active, grants immunity to Bleed, Poison, and Disease effects.

In the end though, you have to understand that for PvE it doesn't matter THAT much. (it does for PvP). I would play the race you feel like you will love more.

PS: Too many emoticons.

Shadowmeld breaks when you start the cast.

Shadowmeld breaks when you start the cast.

What patch did they change that in? I remember playing vanilla and being able to cast aimed shot with stealth breaking  the cast ended on my hunter.

/shrug

every private server I've played on, Shadowmeld ended as soon as you start casting.

Might have worked in earlier patches of Vanilla.

I think that was nerfed at some point by 1.12, probably because of Hunters with Aimed Shot, who could crank the full cast before ever being seen. But opening up from stealth is still an advantage because the spell gets a headstart before the enemy player knew you were there to begin with, meaning it'll probably finish before he does anything.

For races... Dwarf is uncontested on Alliance. If you don't want to be a midget, Human will keep Desperate Prayer and give you a spirit bonus. Night Elf is complete crap here. While Shadowmeld is great... their 2 race spells for Priest are trash. It's not worth giving up Fear Ward, or even Desperate Prayer.

For Horde, it doesn't matter much one which you go with, as every spell is shadow. Both get a damage slot, and a utility slot. The damage one is most useful as shadow spec, while the utility one is useful for anyone. I'd recommend dedicated PVP Priests going Troll for the healing debuff though, but otherwise, you might consider Undead, because mobs usually don't heal or dispel, making the heal debuff unnecessary, and the extra dot useful.

Can you fear ward in shadow form?

No. It is considered a Holy Spell.

That means you will need to drop shadow form to buff it.

No, you can't use both Dwaft priest racial during shadow form, which causes huge waste of mana for a dwaft shadow priest.

Dwarf racials are more suited for Holy priest.

Elf racials are more suited for Disci priest.

Human racials are the most hybrid ones.

Dwarfs are just straight up better. You have the top 2 racials, and you have to realize fear ward has a really long duration so you buff fear ward well before the fearing encounter so you can cast it again. It's also strong in pvp.

If a fight needs fear ward to beat the encounter, I don't give a rats azz about your DPS.    Keep shadow-weaving going with rank 1 Mind Flay if you have to and keep fear-ward up if that is your assignment.

Tank not getting feared, dragon turning and wiping the raid on a breath > than your 200 extra dps using max rank in shadow form vs normal form rank 1 spells.

Well, to be fair, no fight needs fear ward to beat the encounter. Horde does fine without it.

Fights overlap the cooldown on beserker rage every 4th or 5th need for it  which horde have tremor totem.   Naturally you'll want to try to bezerker rage each time since tremor totem is a "pulsating" debuff remover, meaning you might still be feared for a moment which if lined up with a breath could be very bad.

It was just semi-nitpicking to say that fear ward is very good but not necessary to beat fights. That being said, if you're playing shadow and you are assigned to fear ward, lose your DPS and keep it up.

For PvE you don't even use shadowform, you could just go for support spec.

PvP it's another story if you want to play full shadow, but I guess you should go for support as PvP too...

As Shadow Priest, you should never do Fear Ward in Raids, not that just you waste mana , but also loose the already low dps.

Fear Ward is job of Healer Priests, in raids you will always have more than 2 Healer Priests,  2 Dwarf Priests is enough for that .

Nobody should ask Shadow Priest to go fearward or dwarf for PVE, it is plain noob idea #period.

That is assuming your healers are dwarf. Again, lowering a medium dps by 15% in order to counter a boss mechanic is more important that a damage meter.

A lack of fear ward can wipe a raid. Not 15% less damage from a shadow priest.

If other priest got it covered, sure, but being shadow doesn't disqualify you from stepping up when your name is called.

Some guilds recruit dwarves only :D

A guild crunching on Fear Ward isn't very good. We on Horde don't even have this, nor Cleanse. Tremor Totems are terrible.
