The hate from retail

The hate from retail players concerning legacy is unrelenting. Virtually every single optimistic post about the subject on the official forums gets downvoted into oblivion, no matter how contructive (or objective) it is.

 

I'm curious to why this is. A lot of the posters, when trying to explain this rage, appears confused as to why they are so angry in the first place. Things like piracy (in case of private servers) and threat of manpower getting taken from future content (in case of Blizzard hosting them) are sometimes used as fuel, but I have yet to read a single post where either of these points are correctly assessed and would justify such anger. In the vast majority of cases no attempt of rationally explaning their standpoint is made at all, and what you end up reading between the lines is "I don't want other people to have fun".

Whenever I read these posts I end up asking myself this question: "Why do you even care?"

 

My theory is that these people know somewhere deep down that they are playing a shallow incarnation of a once great game, and their bitterness of those (us) having the time and desire to play that game spills over into jealousy.

I find that on MMO champion a ton of anti Legacy players claim they came from Vanilla.  I have played from Vanilla to MoP then unsubbed several times in WoD and do not play Legacy.  Almost no one I know plays anymore.  I know 3 people from a half dozen guilds that I played with for ten years.  That means likely 3 of several hundred.  Yet all the Legion fan boys seem to claim they all came from Vanilla and Legion is better.  I call shenanigans.  The retail version of the game is not an RPG anymore.  Overall game, I would say is inferior but that is my opinion.  I think it is worse because the classes or homogeneous, the quests are lame, they killed the lore and the convenience items took away from the experience.  But like I said, my opinion.

Because it pisses them off. You'd see the same aggravation if you aggressively or incessantly posted on, say, an American political board about how Euro politics is better. Or vice versa. It's called Tribalism. Don't poke it. It won't look kindly on you.

Well yes, there are some people here who are acting like a bunch of selfish parasites, I remember last night reading the first tweet reply to Elysium informing us that they are working on fixing the incorrect items bug.

 

The very first reply to that tweet:

 

"Are you serious? You had 3 stress-test but never once tested if this function was working? Jeuss f*****g christ"

 

 

I just can't understand the mentality of these people, and I'm not now saying that just because it's free that one shouldn't complain, there should be a quality standard even if it's free, but to have zero understanding for the fact that this is a small team and not a giant company that's running this server, it's.. it's pathetic beyond belief.

I go over sometimes for the sole purpose of seeing how many people are complaining about retail and how badly blizzard is messing up.  Anyway seriously who cares about what retail players think about vanilla servers, let's just enjoy our version of the game.

DO you enjoy this game (Vanilla)? Then just play it and have fun, why in nine Hells does it matter if someone else is playing Legion?

There are more than enough players on Nost/Elysium, I say let them play Legion, I don't want them here anways.

last night i made a warrior

in a matter of minutes i made a party

once i hit lvl 8 by pure coincidence i partied with a rogue that was killing some rotting corpses

from there we partied for next 3 hours and had a ваууing blast getting owned by murlocs oracles 

traveling to ogrimar and trying to plvl his last lvl to get to 10 so he can get the weapon skills

than adding his to my friends list and logging off

 

you know what i would have done on retail?

i would go and solo all the way to lvl 110

as i did in previous expansions or when i was switching servers

only interaction would be between random strangers with whom i get partied by the random dungeons

i might as well go play singleplayer game

вау blizzard and their wow for past 3 expansions (ill give cata a pass because the early dungeons were awesome before the nerf when you had to know your фекал and almost a pass for mop because the warriors were so op in that exp)

I don't want to insult them but some people on MMO champion and the WoW official forums are literally brainwashed. It's not only about the Vanilla debate, they will yell at anything remotely negative concerning Blizzard.

We've got these guys. And on the other end of the spectrum, as Rayaleith pointed out, there's those who love to insult retail players for little to no reason. Don't mind them. Both are part of another, greater community they don't even know about and everyone should stay away from.

It's a value judgment: Is the ease and convenience of Retail worth the less enjoyable/cheesier experience? 

 

We resent them for "selling out" by playing inferior content in exchange for quality of life improvements and ease. They resent us for not doing that same tradeoff, and think we're idiots for putting up with annoyances that they don't have to deal with. 

 

Either you like the tradeoff or you don't. I personally don't, and evidently many others don't either, because these forums exist. But we're never going to see eye to eye, the best we can do is just understand the other side's opinion and agree to disagree.

The best option is to just let the Retail players think whatever. You want Nost to last correct? The less publicity and better kept secret of what us players enjoy decreases their chances of ruining our experience!
