Seems the chinese gold farmers have found a new way to spam: Inviting you to chat channels.

 

Instead of whispers, I'm now getting invites to chat channels named after whatever gold spam site they're advertising. SpamThrottle doesn't block it because it's technically not chat.

Blame the people who Buy gold.

Indeed, if peeps don't buy the gold it won't be so worth for them, but by the amount of goldfarmers on the server I'd say its the other way round :<

Yep. People are so lazy. Farming gold for mount are no stress.

I grinded from 32-34, shimmering flats mobs. And got around 100g from it. Just from vendoring greys.

Buy, people dont seem to care that they are ruining the economy. Nor that they motivate the "farmers" to hack other peoples accounts for gold

In Kronos they tried banning them, and they ended up causing a massive DDOS attack. It is easier to accept them as a lesser evil.

 

I agree the real focus of punishment should be gold buyers.

SpamThrottle does not block chat channel invites.

Just use console /st and add part of the name of the channels ("MMOTANK") to the filtering keywords.

You'd think it'd be easy to autoban people if their chat messages contain certain text.

You can do that, but then they'll just use different words, or start using accented letters, or symbols, or whatever they have to, in order to get around the blocker.

 

That's why you'd see spam messages like "www.b|_|yg0!d.c0/\/\!!" and such.

 

Even if you go to extremes like disabling whisper/yell/chat channels until level 15, then they just go and stand in the auction house and spam their message in /say.

 

Chinese gold farmers are a tenacious bunch.

People tend to forget these are poor people just looking to feed their families. This is why in countries where prostitution is illegal, the authorities go after the johns, not the prostitutes.

I still get invites.

Whispers and all the other фекал gets blocked though
