What class?

Recommended Posts

What would you like to do with your character ? PvE, PvP, farming, or just leveling ?

As for leveling :

-Warrior is quite a pain to level with until level 40, but expect getting spammed by "Wanna tank *dungeon name* ??" random whispers.

-Priest gets easy at this level too, as Shadow with Mind Blast + DoT + Wand AFK, but it's really hard to get a raid spot as Shadow at max level, so will most likely have to be a healer.

-Rogue is really hard before level 20 but then it turns alright, but the main issue is that if you want to raid with it, you'll have no choice but to be Combat Specced, and Combat is quite awful for PvP.

-Warlock is basically the easiest class to level with, after Hunter, and also you can play a viable build for both PvE Raiding and PvP.

-Shaman is very fun to level, you do tons of damage due to weapon enchant + lightning shield + totem, but same as priest, if you want to raid you'll most likely be a healer.

-Druid is quite a pain to level, and except for 5-man tanking where feral excels, your guild will want you to be a healer aswell (like Shaman and Priest).

-Paladin is fun to level, but it gets really boring to spam flash heals in raids at max level. Reckoning spec is funny though, you can basically run into a capital and one shot whoever Leather/Cloth wearer you want.

-Mage is pretty easy to level, you won't really be able to AoE farm too much since all spots are overfarmed, and you might get ganked while fighting 15 mobs. You are very useful in PvE, will get spammed by Water/Food/Portal requests, and "DECURSE PLS" messages, also it's a little bit boring in raids as you will be spamming frostbolt pretty much (or decurse sometimes), but in PvP it's really fun to play with in my opinion.

I hope I gave you a brief idea of what you would like to chose as a next class.

Thank you! I'm thinking of a priest or shaman

I'm debating between playing warrior or warlock myself.  I'd like to tank but I love PvP too much and wouldn't look forward to swapping specs twice a week.  Warlock life would be some much easier.

I'm in the same conundrum, I really enjoyed leveling hunter in Vanilla but I know it'll be difficult to get a raid spot. I'm leaning toward either Druid, Warrior, Mage, or Warlock.

My main issue with caster classes is I love that feeling of getting an awesome weapon and wrecking in pvp (like Dark Edge of Insanity/Ashkandi/Xbow of Smiting, etc.)

Watching "Laintime" and "Drakedog" videos to get me pumped for Saturday :)

If you're not main tanking raids you can easily tank as any spec of warrior so I wouldn't let that discourage you from playing what you want to.

I personally main a lock. It is very fun. But, in my WoW career I have taken a liking to all the classes but hunter. Just was never my cup of tea.

The issue I have about playing Warlock is that it's pretty hard to play it on the Alliance side. You basically have a choice between a good looking Human with worthless racials and Gnomes with somewhat good racials but they're Gnomes and why the heck would you play that. Also, you're going to be up against a faction which is going to roll at least 60% Forsaken.

Leveling a warrior is actually fun when you have a main to help with gear.

I think between Mage / Warlock / Hunter (rangeds) or maybe Druid (feral, later healer?)

  • Mages can move fast while leveling with free teleport. As mentioned, food/water/portal whispers inc.
  • Warlock is my favorite but I guess there will be many warlock and getting the first imp quest and then the others done will be HELL (I waited half hour some day ago on the PvE server where most ppl already went past that) and I guess many will roll warlock/paladin just for the free first mount. RAID: Too many of the same class = not guaranteed raidspot. Plus my fav is affli and with debuff limit its useless in raids and I never play any other spec (tried, no fun for me)
  • Hunter is good, I enjoyed in vanilla, but I got bored. However its fast leveler. I knew all gun/weapon location in vanilla and as miner/engi was fun and fast on level on fresh servers. In raids was just ok, and I never liked to pvp with it. Little complicated ammo/petskill management
  • I like Druid too, feral, and my main in retail is a druid healer but in vanilla they usually innervate bots for priests. I would try it in raids since my WoD main is a druid but I heard they are just secondary healers, can't beat priest/paladin/shaman. I can't do feral without my macros, but they not working in vanilla unless I make a smart addon for it (actually I will) :)
  • I don't really like melee clases, warrior/rogue/paladin. Tried, no fun for me. Or if I must choose: warrior. Bank-alt classes for me :)
  • Shaman is Horde and I want alliance!

I guess I'll start mage (gnome just because of the snowy area) and for rested XP (and at the begining as AHbot/trashcan) a priest because in vanilla I never played any healer.

I am also undecided. I'm definitely going to play Horde, but I need to make a decision between playing a Shaman or a Warlock.

What was leveling and questing as restoration Shaman like?

Leveling as Resto is a nightmare. I loved being enhancement but then switched to healer in my 40s since I new I had to for raiding and hated it. But that's just me

Just a quick question : In raids, which one could find a slot more easily ? War Tank or Holy Priest ?

Bear in mind that Rested is 1% exp per hour when staying in a Capital or Inn, up to 150% total (a level an a half).

I'm telling you that because I have many of my friends that only level through rested, but never gets to 60. In my opinion rested gets only really good once you reach 50 :P

SuperMacro ! Allow the commands /script and is basically what you need if you want all these Burning Crusade and above commands such as [target=..] etc.

Well it depends on your guild. Most of the time Main tanks are Core Raiders or Officers, which means that they are really often available (if not always).

In my guild, getting a spot as a priest is difficult, feels like there are so many of them.

I guess Offtank warrior with Arms or Fury spec will have more chance to get a spot, but once again, it really depends on the guild you're in/applying to.

somehow supermacro conflicts with some addon, plus It only allows longer scripts but for example castsequence and other more complex things are not allowed

At the moment I made addon for my warlock, I spam one button to buff myseld if they fall off (demon armor), to create healthstone, SS myself if I have no target. With a friendly target I assist him (or it targets nearest enemy), if got enemy target then sends pet (or summons if no pet), starts dots, agony, corruption, siphon life (if I learned, checks spellbook for spells and ranks), and autoapply a dot if falls off, does drainlife if not at full healt, shadow bolt, does drain soul at low hp if I got less than 3 soulshard... all this with spammming only one button. :)

I want something similar, which I could make in retail: buffs if no target, if out of combat then prowl, then rake shred tiger fury etc whichever is the best, and I can add many if and contition as I want, even can check hp% and choose a finisher... many of these cant even be done in retail, but since vanilla allows targeting and casting from macros/addon its super useful

You made a Macro on retail or an Add-On ? Sounds great either way, I have to admit it would be a great tool for leveling as an Afflication Warlock :p

on retail I have druid feral things as macro but here I had to make a tiny addon, and I just create a macro with: "/gepy attack"

it checks my class, and does these buffing and attacking automatically, at the moment only for warlock, and for my mage the buffs. But If I'll start a feral alt I'll add feral rotation things to the addon (I must have the class and the skills to add spells properly, since it checks debuffs on the target and I need to know the debuff pic's name for that). Funny thing is when the addon checks if I'm dead (so it will not try to cast anything) I must look for the rogue vanish icon among the debuffs (the gray ghost thingie)

I had a tiny addon (for myself) with many optional function from vanilla and I just started to add these things to it, but I can send the current version if you ant to try, the onebutton dotting thing. Most option is command-activated so the sh@tload other function does not slows anything. But maybe I'll just move these things to a separate addon. But for example it does not have siphon life since I dont have that spell yet and I dont know the debuff's iconnname which it should look for and I probably will start a mage on the new server :)

If you have a lowlvl warlock, you can test it, I added a tiny txt to explain things :) Gepy.zip

Big thanks ! Gonna try this tonight ;)

I can't decide between shaman or human rogue myself.

I don't know if windfury has been "fixed" (AKA cannot chain from itself anymore), in which case I would play a human rogue.

Decisions, decisions....

Love it, how do you know iconname once you have the spell?

Could try doing my own things similar how you have done it, like have Cone of Cold with check for Clear Cast proc and then it would do stop casting Cone of Cold. :)
