Take a stand now and show your player base that your terms of service aren't for show.  Even if you shed a few hundred or even a thousand players, the community will be healthier and last longer for it.  If you want to increase the legitimacy of the classic movement, you cannot indulge or tolerate people who ruin the experience for others.

I wait in the queue like I ought to.  If you do not take action against those who circumvent necessary server controls, then I made the wrong choice, along with everyone like me - who are the vast majority.

Don't make doing the right thing the wrong thing.  That will sink this ship.

Friend of mine suggested a week long ban for the character select exploit.  Not a bad idea.  48 would work as well, if not better.

The people using this exploit do it to get ahead of others.  So why not set them back exactly as far as the people who play fair?  Even progress out, while sending a message that even minor infractions won't be ignored?  And do it to absolutely everyone who used this, even though they numbered in the thousands.

Or just put an auto disconnect on the character select screen after about 15 mins of afk.  That would pretty much solve that little problem....also make a new realm.  Even when there's no one afk abusing there's still enough people in the queue alone for another full server with 11k pop.

and how would you detect a keyboard macro that presses random button a w s d space every 5 minutes for 24 hours?

its not going to happen because all of a sudden ppl who didn't use such macros are getting banned for going afk twice or so

just think about it

there is no way of detecting something like that

you can autokick any player that goes afk but that is a shitty solution to

the only viable solution would be another realm but that is also wish full thinking since it gives more workload to the staff again

For you it sounds 'moronic' because of 2 factors: i) you are one of the botters and of course don't wanna be hurt by having used it, and; ii) you have no empathy whatsoever.

 

For the thousands not able to play AND from a purely moral standpoint, botting should be punished.
