Elemental Shaman counter

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am currently playing an Elemental Shaman (lvl 45) on Zeth Kur. While I tend to put focus on leveling and getting to 60 I do enjoy the occasional wpvp. There are however two classes that I encounter that I am having trouble with; the BM hunter and the Rogue. While I understand rogue is pretty king at pvp in general, if I manage to break free from their initial CC/burst I am often capable of putting up a decent fight. I am however completly at a loss regarding BM hunters. I got the pushback immunity on crit tactics and have a /sit macro but it just is not enough since they can pretty much counter my 6 seconds of pushback immunity with multiple spells be it from their pets or the hunter itself. I am currently starting to level up engineering for iron grenades and the like but I would still appreciate some advise from elemental or even resto shamans on how to counter rogues and hunters. I watched Failz's videos but I simply never encounter allies that fight in the way they do in those movies.

Regards.

*This goes for solo pvp ofc, when im playing with my warrior and priest friends I perform much better against said classes.

how to beat bm hunter: hit lvl 60 and then their pets wont do as much dmg as the hunter

or just like kill the pet

how to beat rogue: poison cleaning totem, do 360, and walk away while rogue crawls in frost shock

Do you have eye of the storm for pushback immunity? Without it you get killed from all the pushback that rogues and hunters do.  Also BM hunters are op op at these levels, their pets alone do more damage than other classes especially with beastial wrath.

Rogues aren't that much of an issue unless they use prep and shit like that.  Real counters are Warlocks & Hunters.

Yeah, warlocks with their fear spam...

Warlocks aren't a huge issue unless you're Resto. Hunters can be irritating, especially while leveling but, as long as you can keep Poison Cleansing Totem down and reliably dispel their Viper Sting, you should be fine. Frost Shock the Hunter, Earthbind the pet, keep dispeling yourself, get in the Hunter's deadzone, avoid the FD + Frost Trap combo = win.

Taking into account I perform all these actions, as an elemental shaman, it would result in me basically shocking/lightning shield a hunter to death.

Well, thats what shamans do against rogues as well. You dont really have the time to cast as he will either interrupt you too much or get out of deadzone. But Lightning Shield + Shocks normally do enough damage to outlast hunters. Grenades help alot to cast LHW/CL

The answer to this question is Ele shamans have no counter, we're the counter class. If  You play any given situation well you can beat anyone 1v1.

Well, yeah. Don't you remember the lyrics to "That's the WoW that you play" ?

All you have to do is cast Frost Shock to win

Lmao not at all, frost shock is a slow that deals damage? Can you spam that to win, it helps but doesn't win fights lol. It's clever usage of earthbind, tremor, grounding, poison cleansing, and grounding. Knowing where to position your character for a clear lightning bolt and chain lighting, knowing when the other guy has kick up so you can get a heal off, and of course purge. There's skill involved to ele shaman and I've only seen a couple people play it well..

if you say lol frostshock you're probably not one of those people.

Warlocks a challenge? You can make them your bitch with grounding totem , tremor totem and earth shock. It may come down too the ability of the opposing warlock to dispatch the totems. But in general this gets me the edge over warlocks.

I use Gnomish Net projector on a hunters pet (yep I die 9/10 times if it backfires, but I also 9/10 times if i dont use it). With the pet rooted I get into melee range and keep frostshock up on the hunter. You have some changes to fire a CL or LB, right after a frost shock or grenade stun if you have the reduced casting perk, as most hunters will try to run away from you. It has reasonable succes, but I don't consider myself an expert and I just experiment with startegies.
