Hi,

Looking to give back to community and answer random mage questions but first to build some credibility. No, I don't consider "been playing since 2004, etc" credible or relevant. Results are the bottom line. I am #1 mage in pve + pvp

I'm not the best mage to ask this. Only 'boss' I tried was soloing princess in Mara, which was possible with a basic pvp spec + health pot. But one time I died to Herod when I tried out farming SM. There are youtube vids etc of others doing this much better than me and I was never really was interested in doing this kind of stuff.

I have a question. I will try a 3 minute mage spec. I am unsure whether to go 3/3 imp fire blast and 4/5 ignite or 5/5 ignite and 2/3 FB. Right now I am going for this spec: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#obhVfRboZxTGzr0ux

Wow, that's really good. You had 9 KBs once in that one BG that one time. When everyone else had only 8.

Something like 30%+ of retail WOW players have the Wrecking Ball achievement by the way (20+ KBs with 0 deaths).

Going just 9-0 and then screenshotting the board screams "I don't do a lot of PVP but when I do, I screenshot things that should be everyday occurrences!" And it makes it obvious that you are a middle of the pack player in your typical games.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Assuming you are going for the YOLO-montage type build... try this: changed some points around: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#of0AbRboZxTGzr0ub0h . Definitely 3/3 imp FB.

3 minute spec sucks right now since caster gear is disproportionately worse than its ever going to be. You have no crit, you deal with the pvp resists (only 1% hit available from scholo belt, deal with 5.6%~ or whatever pvp resist). the 3 minute mage is sick after full t2/ZG gear.

If u were a good player youd understand the goal is to show the game time and the opponents in a game. people in game that know me are aware i screenshot almost everything lol

If you are new to the game, honestly just avoid improved wands as mage for now and just take the 3/3 elemental precision, the rest you can experiment on your own and learn that way, or just follow guides online but i prefer to experiment

 

Overall, depends on your goals. http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#oZZchG should be your build so far.... then if you want to try aoe grinding, youtube 'frostadamus' he makes good guides, and respec at lvl 35 with something like this http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#oZZMhMIsfzh, then build whatever after that in into ice barrier, but NEVER get frostbite for aoe-grinding. If you want to pvp, avoid imp blizzard and use frostbite instead

 

 

Doing mafia stuff and pvp prem's with a 0/11/40 build, and so far its my favorite in non-raid by far: improved fireblast + fireblast range +impact is underrated. Even though imp CS and clearcasting is so good, its in my opinion overrated http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#obZVMhzZVAGdkftho

Is there any reason why you went clearcasting instead of improved wand dmg?

My inhead calculations tell me that in a 1hour bossfight the wand spec should outdamage clearcasting

Agreed that there's a lot you can improve (and we all can). Showing the opponents and your own teammates showed that you were on a good team, not that you are a good player. You may have had a single game where you had 1 more Killing Blow (literally just 1) than two other players on your team, but I'm guessing they're usually far above you if you screenshotted that one. They also have much higher ranks than you do.

Anyway, congrats on rolling with a good team. That at least says your guild is good at this game even if you are meh (and hey, maybe you are above average! We don't really know from one pretty run-of-the-mill screenshot.)

because BiS gear you get around 170~SP. and your crit chance is so small (like 11%, maybe 15% if you stack it with current gear). Fire blast scales badly but has great baseline damage. I havent sat down to do the math but trust me, having %more fireblasts (instants = god in pvp, so u can focus on positioning, also meele leeway bug is broken so u can kite way too easily w/ instants). im just saying IN THIS CURRENT GEAR AND SERVER THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST CHOICE, IVE NEVER LOST A BG and only died in wpvp to SL warlock once and 2 times when i was afk in crater. After full t2+ZG gear and hopefulyl they fix meele leeway mechanic similar to corecraft, yeah probably gonna be 5/5 ignite no question. idea is you just gotta be smart and adapt

 

like if u think about, ignite at  best is 40% of 15% dmg increase. (6.5% overall increase ish) fire blast (used on cd in pvp almost) the 1.5sec cd reduce is down from 8s to 6.5s, which is basically a 5s cooldown since u deal with GCD. insane difference

lol boss fights shouldnt last more than 30s-1min. you never want to wand (except for onyxia p1 if your guild wants to go into phase 2 with full mana) only time u wanna maybe use improved wand is if you're leveling a twink and you get BiS wand and you are memeing

Will you ever share your tips or "secrets" when it comes to leveling as a mage? I want to start leveling another mage just to see the best time I can get, since I'm usually pretty slow at leveling. I already know to avoid any instances or leveling professions or doing things that take much time. Also, I can give myself 50-100g from another account to fresh lvl 1, so I'll buy myself some nice bags , but what items should I buy to have in my mage's inventory to quickly equip when I reach the item's level, to increase my leveling speed (to help me aoe faster etc) ?

Best I know is to get ahead of pack at launch and AOE grind. If leveling 'with the pack', just quest normally. Find quiet spots and kill as much stuff as fast as you can, and don't worry about min/maxing quests especially in areas like stranglethorn. IF you are giving your mage alt 100g to level faster, invest all of it into health and mana pots and use them like you would in diablo 2.

This is my first time playing mage, I tried AoE grinding but it's way to crowded these days in Elysium.

So i respecced to do quests and instances currenty lvl 35, could you tell me which talents are the best for me? (currently a frost mage playing as a frost mage)

Do you advice a mix between frost and fire? or just pure frost? and which talents and which spells do u advise ?
