Druid Tank Race

Recommended Posts

Pre-submission edit: My question is ONLY from a PVE standpoint.

I am absolutely not a min max player, and am against it for my own gameplay, but I do have a question related to the concept of min maxing. When it comes down to the racials for tauren stamina (*00 HP @ 60 if I recall) and elven dodge percent (+1%?), which is overall better? When I played retail vanilla, we had an incredible druid tank in our raiding guild (Horde), but I remember him saying that if he were an elf, things would be a bit better for him. Druid tanking largely relied on defense capping, and damage avoidance if I recall, stacking huge amounts of armor, defense, and avoidance, with naturally enormous pools of HP.

So which is overall more helpful? I am asking this assuming all calculations and stats work correctly and so on, and also assuming the tank is wanting to push the limits of his class for the absolute most effective and farthest reaching tank content-wise.

InB4 warrior, reroll, just heal me and so on.

1% dodge is nothing, HP will be better, you'll need it for healers to keep up with a druid in vanilla pre AQ/Naxx gear :D

By that logic there must be no alliance druids that are feral tanks. Oh wait...

Horde could be cool with +66 agi totem, but in 99% of cases, people will argue that you don't need that but the melees need Windfury. Therefore Alliance > Horde due to Blessing of Kings. In Raids, you even get the other blessings, too! Totems are only grp wide and have a pathetic range. I also envy Judgement of Wisdom, the mana is great for feral cat gameplay.

It would be fun to experiment using that totem to see what could be done. As you and Zarant said though, BoK really would be powerful. I hadn't been considering the faction-specific classes and how they synergized. Thanks for the input!

Are u stupid? Alliance or Horde is still a question of taste and where your guild/friend is, also Alliance has Kings but that wasn't really asked...also not everbody gives a damn about a racial ;)

Btw, talking about stupid, I think you missed his point entirely.

Unbuffed tauren always will beat out night elf as a tank for stats. They have better racials and more stamina. However in a raiding environment alliance = pallies so night elf tanks will always have the upper hand because of it.

Oh and @Tr1n1ty I'm tanking just fine in my pre AQ gear. Over 12k health fully buffed so not missing the tauren health pool that much.

taladril is correct with this part since you have BoK which gives 10% to all of your stats which is much greater than 5% stamina from tauren radical... essentially NE tanks have better stamina when buffed. Only advantage that tauren druids have is in TBC because of Blood Elf paladins being able to buff BoK for horde.

If I remember correct then the tauren 5% HP bonus is only for the Base HP Pool and Not for the item stats

Just FYI it's not "1% dodge" that NE's get over Taurens. The base Agility difference between Night Elf and Tauren is 10 (!!!), which is the largest of any two races, so it's actually much more than just the 1% dodge from the racial. More like 2%.

And BOK absolutely blows away any advantage the Tauren might have in HP or anything else. It's really no contest nonwhatsoever: NElf is clearly superior and the margin in favor of them is large.

Outside of a raid, you can not always count on having a paladin. And in dungeons you get more out of one shaman than from one paladin, if you just look on raw buffs for yourself. 66 Agi is more than NE start Agi plus 10% of your whole Agi. You also get MP/5 and a major Strength bonus. It's actually the Judgement of Wisdom that I miss most, personally...

The Tauren ability "War Stomp" is a gem in many situations. You can shift out, use it and have enough time for casting Regrowth. It's serves well on your way from 1-60 and is cool in dungeons.

It's just the raids where Nightelfes are "clearly superior" (to quote the poster above me). And raids are only one facett of this game :)

btw, if you want to tank raid bosses and can't count on a bunch of dwarf priests, then you will value Tremor Totem of a shaman very highly ^^
