Question about improved Models for 1.12

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I wonder if the improved models made by "zerocool" and "koward"  (on another forum) will be able to use here? These are models from legion, updating both npc's and char models and spells etc. Currenly I'm playing with these on another server, and I prb won't be able to play on this server without it as I can't stand the old char models.

Fair enough, but I have played on different vanilla servers these last year, and the old look is not nostalgic anymore. But everyrone is different.

I hope someone can answer my question

Couldn't care less for updated models. This is vanilla.

Legion that way -->

I like the idea of using new models because it doesnt REALLY effect gameplay. However changing something like player models could be a slippery slope that could lead to other non-blizzlike changes.

Model editing is not allowed.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sad to hear that these changes are not allowed since they enchant the game for some people. Good luck with the project.

You would be mostly covered in gear anyway so it doesn't really make much difference in my opinion.  I still like the look of the old models well enough and was never particularly impressed with any of the new ones.  Not something I'm ever focused on or concerned about ya know?  It's tier gear, weapons and badass armor in general that I really care about.

Guys, no point in bashing people who ask for things like this one. If we do this, they will simply be alienated and the Legacy community will be stuck with its "toxic" branding (reference to what that Towel guy, or what his name is, keeps saying about us).

Please keep in mind that the WoW fanbase isn't split only in Legacy and Legion, there are also "Legiacy" fans who want a mix of both worlds. Surely if they would be convinced to try Legacy for the good reasons, our numbers would grow. We all know that the more the merrier, right?

And to the OP, regarding old vs new models, humans are very adaptable beings; therefore enjoying the great parts of vanilla (such as interactions with many players for achieving impossible goals from what I've heard, not to mention that rewarding feeling when you obtain something you want the hard way) would probably make you disregard the outdated models (also as someone said above, you will be covering that face up anyway sooner or later with awesome gear :P )

I would give you +1for this.

What would anyone else care if someone wants new models for themselves? It in no way affects your own gameplay or experience. As I recall, the problem with modifying your character skins is it's modifying the game client. To anti-cheat warden it see's you've modified MPQ files and that's an insta-ban. Exceptions can't be made, because then we'll get caught up in splitting hairs that will occupy too much time.

i think huge part and point of multiplayer experience is that all players see the same thing when they look at some creature/other player

The discussion is academic since it's not allowed, however modifying one's client doesn't modify the game client or anyone else's client. Everyone else's DB remains the same and the traditional character will be rendered. I wonder though if it could affect one's hitbox. Dunno.

Does this mean that all people with decent pcs have to turn down graphics cause people with really shitty pc wont see the same level of effects then?

"turning down level of effect" is different than forcing completely new models/art into something that was created by entirely different artists who had their vision of the game, vision that they wanted all players to see eventually

The reason they don't allow model changes is because you can change anything. You could change mining veins to appear as huge beams of light that can be seen from anywhere on the map. Or plants or any other thing people might want to farm.

Just imagine farming when you know exactly where to go to find all the veins and plants. How unfair that is to everybody else.

I might be wrong but I think you could also change some locked doors into plants or critters and just walk past them.

You could change everything that obstructs vision in battlegrounds and flatten it so you can see.

You can change gnomes to be 2 meters tall and fat.

You can make stealthed characters glow red. You won't be able to target them until they are properly revealed but you will see them on the screen and you will know where they are.

You can change spells to have no animation if it bothers you.

You can make totems and pets minuscule so you never click them by accident.

You get the point.

I have no problem with people wanting newer models (though I personally would prefer the old ones) but the simple reality is that in order to have any effective anti-cheat system, you can't allow editing of the game files.
