Many people might have seen this video already. But I am spreading here as well.

This is well made, I mean very very well made. It hits you hard.

The fact that it was made at the end of TBC shows you how bad this exp. pack was already for the community!

(yaya overall tbc was good, but it killed the community instantly!)

Flying mounts (Introduced in BC that's tru), the removal of 100% of the classes mechanics and what made them unique and the addition of too much convenient crap (portals, LFR, Raid Finder...) killed the community.

BC had still much going for it community wise ImO (All the action was in Outland...). Maybe not exactly as much as Vanilla but the game got more and more popular.

Great video nonetheless, love the old WCM stuff

yeah there was always stuff going on in front of kara, at elemental plateu, in front of SSC, at that goblin village in netherstom right in front of the dungeons, in front of CoT... but still not in that numbers like it happened in Vanilla, where almost the whole server was at one place. Only rudimentarily comparable spot was

Isle of Quel'Danas.

For such a simple video it actually made me realize that "player-driven content" shouldn't involve building, dungeon makers, etc and all that other crap that devs have tried over the years. It only requires freedom of the player to be able to do things (attack anything basically) that creates content all by itself. It's not like there was anything to gain for fighting in hillsbrad at level 60 but people did it anyways because it was magic. That's all long gone now in every modern game.

I feel kinda the same. To me its sort of like a game is not as good as the many tools it offers, but rather the tools it doesn't offer - which makes you the one to become obsticles rather the game itself. This is why starcraft:bw is way more superior than Stacraft 2 for example. It didn't allow multiple building selection, it didn't allow indefinite unit selection etc. Thus you had to find ways yourself to make your whole army move for example. Same goes with LFG system, teleporting instead of moving yourself etc. etc.

What's sad is that after this video was made, things got even worse. With the introduction of flying mounts EVERYWHERE, PVP was forever ruined. While flying mounts did exist in BC and WK; you could only do it at max level, and in those zones. Their damage was kept to a minimum. With Cata however brought the ability to do it EVERYWHERE, meaning decent PVP could no longer be found, not even in Azeroth anymore. City raids being ruined is perhaps the worst part. City raiding is something that should have been brought back, with kings given decent drops, not just "achievements".

 

Achievements are among the worst things put in the game. They have replaced everything as the reward for challenges and accomplishes. In the old days, you had real rewards, such as hard to obtain equipment other players would never obtain (ie Thunderfury). Now, anyone can easily get anything gear wise, and skilled players must seek out extra challenge which is no longer necessary, and only rewards you with achievement "points". Getting max achievement points, which don't do anything, are the last thing in the game which require any effort or skill. In the old days, this effort or skill was at the fore front to get anything.

I never liked flying mounts but not for the wpvp aspect. Just because you miss things when you fly from one point to another instead of travelling with ground mount. The system applied to Legion is not bad. That means enabling flying towards the end of the expansion.

 

About wpvp. People that wanted to wpvp could do it just fine to several places, as Buffdaddy said above. Or you could even stopped using flying and make yourself available for wpvp. What you probably mean is that you could not attack people who were not interested to pvp at the specific time. Well, it was a relief for people that were not full of consumables and grenades all the time. But still you could kill people that wanted to pvp :P And hey! you could actually get some resistance!

There is really nothing to see, unless you are an inexperienced MMO player this is already common knowledge. Open world PvP in wow was never more than an after thought, they didnt care about it, they didnt flesh it out and as soon as they could transfer over to BG they totally abandoned the thought of it for anything other than jokes.

 

You can attempt to blame TBC, which isnt logical, but in reality there was so much drive for the PvE aspects of Wow that everything PvP took a back seat. If you really want to know how many mini projects Blizzard scrapped due to planned disinterest, find that older thread of Blizzard PvP brainstormed ideas and plans which were all canceled/pushed back.

 

Neutral quest hubs that when taken over by either faction granted pvp dailies for exp and gold and a server wide faction honor bonus was the top one I remember.

 

PvP was never given much thought outside of BG and Arena, this is a sad but true fact, which is why Wow was and will never be known for its large scale pvp.

TBC was when WoW was at its' very best. "killed the community instantly". Huh... opinions are a funny thing.

Bandwagon poster just seeing someones opinion and trying to push it along with no real thought, 90%+ of these people probably didnt play either Vanilla or TBC wow and are just looking back adding commentary.

I would advise that you don't assume whether or not people played during those times. They might have and could have differing opinions. Some might just be misinformed. For some, for what would be incomprehensible to me, TBC might not be their favorite iteration of WoW, for they might not like how it impacted the game.

I played TBC and Vanilla and yes most pvp happened in BGs as this was where the most honor was but I dont think I ever had 1 week where some form of large world pvp didnt happen.

 

Be it for world bosses, ganging up on raids going into BRM or just having a ganking escalated to a war between two guilds. There was always some world pvp going on especially in farming areas like Tyrs Hand or Hearthglen
