Nost PvP - new healer question

Recommended Posts

So I finally decided that I am going to start my character on Nost pvp. I usually roll a warrior to tank but i feel like I need a change so I decided on a shaman.

In pvp I can choose between 3 solid specs which is nice and for pve shaman heals and totems are amazing.

My real question is how is the shaman population on the server? Any veterans of the server got any info?

Ele and Enh do not have class tier gear oriented towards those specs. They both can do ridiculous burst damage with the right gear, but both have somewhat low survivability. Resto shamans can live forever and then some and deal rather decent damage considering - plus their class tier gear is oriented for resto. You'll deal more damage but have HELL finding gear and raid groups as ele/enh but will do mountains of burst damage. Restoration will find raids all day long and have mountains of decent gear to collect, they deal low to moderate damage but have nice burst none the less with lightning shield/fire nova totem/windfury/chain lightning.

If you really want a shaman your best bet is to go enh up to 60 then resto. Once you come across some decent gear for the offspecs, go for it - just remember you're not going to be very wanted for raids.

Edit: If you manage to collect rank 12-14 pvp gear they work great with all specs, especially ENH.

Ehhh forgot to mention that Shamans are somewhat overpopulated, but end-game shamans are almost always sought after, particularly restoration. With the amount of people, you're bound to find a niche guild that appreciates you. Assuming you can hold your own, of course :P

Holding my own wont be a problem. Experienced prot warrior through naxx so I think I can handle healing at pretty much any lvl.

Honestly hybrid classes aren't for everybody. If you want to go healing, cool. If you want to go otherwise, just remember everything is going to be significantly harder in one way or another.

Yeah thats part of the appeal. Have already done a druid and found that fairly boring and a priest seems pretty good but I like the option of being a semi-melee class with enhancement. If I can scrape the gear together I would like to be enhancement for pvp or roll healing behind some melee with WF totem. Healing with shamans seems like it could be fairly interactive as well, atleast more interactive than a druid.

Thank you for confirming that it will be a little over populated though. Might have to out perform and politic my way into a decent guild =P

Xykaru im sorry but you are wrong in a sense.

T2 is decent ele gear, the 5 piece bonus works towards healing aswell as offensive spells.

30/0/21 in 10storms with decent sp is decently good to pvp on.

But in PvE you'll spam chain.

There's a difference between 'decent' and 'up to par with priority spec gear'. It may be good, but it is not as useful for ele/enh as it will be for restoration. If you pick a mage/lock/hunter/rogue, your class tier gear will benefit every single spec to the maximum, which is not the hybrid life.

Leather wearing enhancement shamans who think they are a born for pug pvp melee only spec are overpopulated, if you are a shaman aspiring to raid (resto) you should have 0 problems finding a spot anywhere you'd like. On top of that if you can actually place totems, you will be in the top 10% of shamans already.

I strongly recommend going fresh server not PvP server if you're new

You may want to take Mage/Lock out of this, especially for early tiers.

I would say you will not be dissapointed rolling a Shaman.

Simply keeping down you totems will automatically make you mvp. Seriously the amount of /love whispers I got when I was playing with shaman was incredible...

If you wana feel loved by everyone, then roll shaman :D

I highly recommend you get the addon: TotemTimers

Xykaru you have no idea how to gear and you are passing the wrong information to the masses.

T2-shammy gear sucks and lacks + heal and mp/5 all the off set items have. Most ZG blues and 5 ,man blues provide better healing gear. That set IS for hybrid world solo/pvp play. Same as pally T2 after upgrade stats.

Mages do not raid in T1 nor T2, might go 3/8 T2 for threat fights. Locks do not raid in T1 and T2 only 3/8 is used at best for set bonus SP not all use that set either.

Even T2.5 mage lock usually use 2 out of 5, maybe 3 depending if they have HiS everything else.

Show a little love to shamans 3/8 T2 setbonus...

Gloves, Bracer, Head would be the 3 to get for the set bonus I suppose, so you can still wear Boots of Purethough, Over Empowered Leggings, Corehound Belt, Wild Growth Shoulders, and Robes of the Exhalted

While I completely agree that mage/warlock t1/t2 is basically Ironforge/Orgrimar AFK gear, I can't fully agree when it comes to paly healing gear. I'll elaborate

I said can't fully agree because there are indeed fights where gear that you suggested would be better choice, but there are other fights, mostly in AQ40 and Naxx where that extra stamina will come into count. On top of that, t2 also provides decent amount of intellect which also counts for something in longer fights. While I was playing my old paladin as healer I carried 3 set of gear for different sort of fights.

Best healing bonus, for short fights, or fights where aren't much AoE damage around. Think Golemag, Vael, Loot Lord, Patchwerk...Problem with this set is that there are items with amazing +healing bonus but very low stat bonus (Casandra Grace, Robes of Exalted...)

Then there are fights where you're also not going to take much AoE damage, or damage that you take can be mitigated with some resistance pots, but they last longer. For that kind of fights you want gear pieces with lot of mp5 and intellect. Think progression on Ragnaros, Nefarian, Skeram, Bugs, Sartura, Razuvius...

Lastly, there are fights where even tho you might heal less efficient with stamina gear, you can survive longer, and consequently get better healing result simply by not dying. That's when you need those t2 pieces. Think Twins, Ouro, C'thun, Anub, Grob, Noth...

So, basically, things are not that black and white, as you guys painted it. Tier 2 is not best set ever, at least for paladins (and I'm assuming that shamans are in the same boat) like Xikaru kinda said, nor it is complete pile of poo as you claim it.
