Won't solve anything either. A few years ago on the server I worked on we started Mac address banning. It solved a ton of issues.

Most of the gold spam comes from hacked accounts. Banning accounts wont do much good, ip banning neither as there are millions of VPN's.

What the staff can do is ban accounts until they change passwords. This way, you will know if someone got access to your account, as well as there possibly can be done fair account bans further on.

Another problem is finding the characters that grind the gold for sale, as well as banning the accounts that stacks it.

It really depends on your Internet Provider.

But anyway, people are sharing IPv4, for instance I am currently sharing my IP with 7 other people right now.

This is especially true in China where many people run under the same people eventho they're hundred of kilometers from each others without even knowing who else have the same IP.

It is a networking known issue and the reason we're slowly but surely migrating (I mean, in IT Networking world) to IPv6 is because all the IPv4 combinations are already owned/beeing used.

Also bear in mind that, like it is/was on retail, most if not all the accounts spamming gold ads are hacked account, banning these accounts is not a solution either.

tl;dr you cannot IP ban.

Does it's really that hard to hand 100 account bans per day manually? It's easy to lure goldsellers, just log in as 1-30 lvl character and get 4-5 whispers instantly.

IP ban is not the solution. We are constantly fighting this problem. Remember that we do catch all gold buyers eventually and if you buy gold, you will permanently lose your account.
