deadmines is abbreviated as dm

Recommended Posts

People started calling Deadmines DM during WotLK when Dire Maul became pretty much irrelevant. But anyone who played WoW through 2004-2007 will tell you, Deadmines was very commonly referred to as VC as to not confuse it with Dire Maul. If you want to confuse people by calling Deadmines DM, then by all means be my guest. But anyone who claims that it's not VC is wrong, and is just making it more confusing than it needs to be.

I think if you are in Westfall you can call it DM because you wouldn't be in Westfall talking about Dire Maul. If you're in a major city call it VC to avoid confusion. My take on it anyway.

This is Atlas, one of the most used addons in vanilla.

Never used Atlas. We called Deadmines DM in vanilla. But maybe that's an european / german thing.

On Trollbane EU, Deadmines was always DM and Dire Maul became DiM. Besides u could easily distinguish them cus ppl always shouted DiM East or DiM West etc. Never even heard of VC.. and what does that even stand for? VanCleef?

Back In vanilla I remember being in Westfall always asking for DM boosts from my mates level 40 hunter. Never really heard it being called VC on Burning Blade EU. But then I think I saw VC sparingly maybe when I started playing again in 1.12.1 going through into burning crusade.

from the start it's been DM, VC came later to distinguish from diremaul but there wasn't a huge need and it didn't take over the popularity of just calling it DM.

It was VC all the time.

Deadmines is VC. Always been VC and will always be VC. Or just Deadmines. But VC. not DM.

Please also stop calling DPS as DD.

These two statements are pure bullcrap.   Never have you been more wrong.

Upon releasing World of Warcraft, there was no Dire Maul.   It is an later added dungeon, in early Vanilla.

Through closed beta.  Throught open beta.  And obviously in the beginning of Vanilla - The Deadmines was called DM.

I never understood why it's "DPS" on english realms. Is "Damage Dealer" incorrect english?

It doesn't really make sense to call someone a "Damage per Second".

Warsong-US realm?

From 2006-2010 the time I've played it was always VC.

No, sorry, both are EU. Yes, Warsong was populated with russian players those days.

DD meant Direct Damage on WoW.

I know what Direct Damage is. I'm talking about damage dealer as a role.

so nobody ever used DD for anything. It was always DPS. You need 4 tanks 10 healers and 26 dps.

I know that it is common for english speaking WoW players (or maybe english speaking MMORPG players in general) to abbreviate "damage dealer" as "DPS", it just doesn't make any sense.

I bet it is only for WoW english community, but as far as I know all US realms always talked about DPS. Maybe in some other non-english communities in EU it is different.

I guess you're right.
