They're not blocking VPNs, just making them illegal. Lots of things in China are illegal. Doesn't stop people from doing it.

Just like how torrenting porn is illegal; doesn't stop us americans from doing it.

Also, "the new rules would go live immediately and be in place until March 31st, 2018." not happening for another year.

That thing you quoted says the opposite of what you think it does...

Is it just me who think it's amusing when people comment about something being illegal in China when they themselves use pirated illegal software to play on an illegal pirate server? Nothing immoral with that but illegal nonetheless.

How is it pirated if I already paid for the software?

Completely wrong to assume that. I own a physical copy of World of Warcraft.

Does it fit into pocket? :)

Do you carry your physical copy of the world on your shoulders? Sounds like titanic effort. Beware of icebergs.

I don't want to get into a legal discussion here. Morally you and everyone else is safe in my opinion. But you have bought a license to connect to blizzard servers and as soon as you connect to a private server even with a legal copy of the game you are committing piracy. But again, morally, totally fine.

This is why it's silly to comment on what is legal or illegal in China when everyone here is breaking the law in every country. So get off your high horses..

There are different levels of severity when it comes to "illegal" things.

Jaywalking is illegal, but you don't see anyone freaking out over it.

Passing on the right is illegal, but you don't see people reporting it.

Torrenting a single mp3 is not the same as torrenting an entire album and then selling bootleg CDs.

Get what I mean?

if elysium does not block VPNs for everyone, china blocks VPNs for their citizen.

gj elysium, look what youve done: https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/23/china-vpn-illegal-internet-censorship-government-approval/

lol

I'm a Chinese player, I bought VPN services from a legal provider (http://www.lonlife.cn/), and we can still get the legal services now.

I use VPN just for connecting to Elysium only for a better latency rather than exploring more in internet.  Free-VPN won't prevent you away from the truth,  block-VPN won't stop fake information, neither. No medias could be out of the special interest groups' control (Trump's comments for those medias might be a reference).

plz investigate more before submit something as  a rumor, or something else.  I would say i'm really  happy living without drug abusements, flood of gun crimes, racisms, bad public securities,  even though we may have other common/special problems.  I feel pretty "free" since I can go out of house any time (no matter in  metros or countries) without worrying about bad rogues; I feel pretty "equality" since no body will say "ching chong"  or "nigger" to me, I never need to bear such racists.

I don't know where u come from, but i think you must be happy living there, aren't you?

this is what controlled, one-sided media does to you. btw, theres not only the USA. the US actually is a minority here imo, so no need to start a fight

"this is what controlled, one-sided media does to you"    ------ what information we get  had been controlled, no matter which country we are.  sometimes we think they don't, but they do!

"btw, theres not only the USA"  ------ sorry I that I just wanna saying some example and do not want to make the country involved, :)

"so no need to start a fight"  ------ Agree!  Trust me, don't wanna such "fight" in deed. And you may have found out that English isn't my native language yet.
