Re-spec costs (question - not change request)

Recommended Posts

So we have vanilla re-spec costs making changing them often VERY expensive.

It’s cool, I’ve read the post which says that’s here to stay and I’m not asking them to change it.

I would like to ask why though, what do we gain from not being able to re-spec for an affordable amount?

Healer in dungeons is what I live for, but in the outside world questing…  ugh.

Thanks for any replies (please don’t bash me, I’m only asking the question, not requesting a change)

Yeah, Im not sure why people cry about that and yet, we can make both alliance and horde toons on the same account. That is not blizzlike

I bet the people who cry about it aren't hybrids.

Just bad design by Blizzard...if they were thinking a little bit they would have reduced the cost so people aren't pidgeon holed into a single role with such a massive gold impact.

I heal too but respecing properly for pvp or world pve farming isn't really feasible. Had to level an alt...

It's a much-needed gold sink for inflated economies. Since everyone has a mage alt and can aoe farm instances, it adds tons of gold to the economy which then drives up prices of trade goods.

It isn't supposed to be easy. It's designed to be hard. Besides, leveling an alt gives you something to do to keep you busy and playing the game between raids. Nobody ever said you can't have two priests, one speced for raiding, and one speced for outside world questing and farming. If it's cheap, you swap back and forth. if it's expensive, then you have two characters with different specialties.

Im 100% sure that was not intended nor plan. It was something they overlook, and this is coming from someone that was a alt-oholic. Maybe 12 years ago when we had all the time in the whole it didnt bother us as much. But now, who has the time to level up alts or multiple classes? Its not game breaking if the cost was lowered.

I had both Horde and Alliance characters on one account starting in December 2004, so I'm not sure why you think that isn't Blizzlike. However, I believe there was a time gate on being able to switch from one faction character to the opposing faction.

IMHO, in the original game design there were support classes (druids, paladins and shamans) who were supposed to off-heal and off-tank in dungeons.

The model that we use today in which we have a single main healer who does all the healing stuff isn't the original game design: with a support class playing in your group, you don't have to be 100% spec-efficient in your role.

On the same server? I thought you couldnt have both on the same server, could be wrong.

Yes, even on the same server you could have toons on both sides. Its how those of us in PVP guilds would jump over and talk to the other side after an amazing BG or something of the sort.

You don't need to be heal-specced in dungeons at all. It's really a small difference. In Vanilla Gear > Talents.

Only on a PvE server. You couldn't make a horde and alliance character on a PvP server on the same account. They did change this with TBC though.

And I only ever played on PvE realms, so that would explain that. Even on PvE realms I seem to remember there being a 20-minute gate on switching over to an opposing faction character. Supposedly it was to prevent spying on the opposing faction to scout weak points and then swapping back over to relay this information to attacking forces.

I never had two factions on the same server since I played PvP primarily, so I don't know about the timer between swapping, but I wouldn't imagine they would make you wait. Nothing was stopping someone from just having two accounts and being on both factions at the same time anyways. Or have a friend on one faction while you q sniped or scouted.

The original game play and atmosphere were just different. I remember being bored and just grinding humanoids for fun, gold, cloth, and a chance at an epic (I know, don't laugh), all of which added up. Without any knowledge of a dual spec, or lowered costs like we have now, the 50g cost was just another expense you had to farm for if you wanted to respec.

We're spoiled now
