I played paladin in vanilla and wanted to dps soo bad, and I was in a top10 guild on the server I was on, and they actually just let me in, I didn't do shit, and didn't asked me twice of just being dps, but in all honesty it wasn't optimal, because I was sooo nooby. 

If I actually put effort behind it, and getting the right gear, cosumables, etc. I think it will be pretty viable, as you and some others have proven. 

You gave me blood on my tooth to live wet vanilla wow dream of mine! 
I'm gonna give it a shot.

 

JESUS CHRIST, how fucking butthurt can some of these guys be? If you just can be in the top10 in the damagemeter isn't that viable enough regardless of classes? And you manage to even stay top 5 a lot. 
I don't understand how narrowminded people can be, when a dude actually show that it can in fact be viable inspite of what you might have been told or seen before. Why can't one just acknowledge that it is plausible, and it increases the quality of the individual's gaming experience overall ?

its the retard mentality of "if you arent a minmaxxing human female fury warrior chugging rage potions" thats plagued alot of people, i applaud sanctum allowing multiple raids happen and letting people raid in suboptimal specs so they can have a good time, i mean

they're clearing the raid, who the fuck cares if it takes them half an hour longer or so?

if your definition of fun is clearing a raid as fast as possible every week so you can go back to being afk in ironforge you need to reconsider the reasons why you play this game.

That is exactly my point, and you should think that a video game that was made over a decade ago on a private server, that there should be room for experimenting with different stuff and push the boundaires. 

Someone even used the arguement that they didn't want to try it out, because they don't wanna have a special snowflake. 
Even though there is a lot who wants to be special snowflakes nowadays, and I don't understand that concept whatsoever, in the end of the game this is just a game, and it's about having quality in the time you spend. 

I could understand you'll stick to your opinion, if the dps paladin is constantly rock bottom in dps, and there is no hope of ever climbing the meter. For sure then the stigma holds true. However if you can put up the extra work, and actually manage to be in just top10 all the time, then there should be no whining about it not being viable.

Back in vanilla my guild was almost 100% pvp specs and hybrids, we killed everything except KT in Naxx, and C'Thun in AQ40. I played a 11/25/15 reckoning paladin and never had to respec for pve, and I could dps/heal/dispel as I saw fit. Minmaxers can suck a fat D. We were the number 2 guild on our server for pve, and we were a pvp guild at our core.

That being said, if you were legit number 1 dps, then something was wrong with the rest of your raid xD

If ret paladin is above any of these classes rogue,mage,fury,warlock,hunter, on boss fights then question to ask is not what is he doing right but what are they doing wrong soooo wrong. And paladins are last in dps always. They have only one spot and purpose and that is nightfall debuff.

ret cant dps for shit, and uses up warrior loot. Try hard ret players who use nightfall, always full consumables, 100% attendance and plays perfect can be useful though. Maybe he cant do great dps but reliable, good players are still useful in guild. Wanna be ret dpsers should focus on that (since there is shit ton of slacker furies and rogues, who can do much more damage in raid)

What would min-maxed fun specs look like ? What debuff slots would you use to maximize your fun specs ? 

Just my idea of a -+'d fun spec group:

Furry warrior - brings battle shouts and dps

-benefits from Druid Aura

Feral dps Druid -  Brings Aura

- benefits from battle shout and judgment of wisdom ?

Ret Pally - Brings Utility and swings nightfall for raid, and judgment of wisdom

-benefits from shouts , and druid Aura

....... what else fits in group ?

What would a Smite Priest group look like ? (luls)

Sooo i wont go into much explaining here since you wont try to believe me due to your natural close-mindedness you were born with, but Rets get about 500-600 +holydmg (figured id tell you that its more than the average caster will ever see in vanilla since you dont seem to see anything besides your oversized epeen) if they stack up 6 ranks of crusader on the same target (smite priests profit from that aswell obv) add to that 2 ranks of judgement of wisdom or even 3 and your rets and smite priests (two classes which are notoriously known for how quick they burn through their mana if they want to) are suddenly going to pull dps numbers your silly warrior or rogue couldnt dream about. 

So for the next time give an attempt at thinking through what you just said before you hammer on your keyboard while screeching autisticly.

You are missing his point when he mentions the stuff that should be included. Debuffs are there to optimize the raid. It's not there to optimize one specific fury warrior. A bunch of debuffs specifically just to make a ret look stronger is not a fair comparison.

the fact is during AQ patch, a raid optimized for ret paladins and smite priests can theoretically outdps fury warriors and rogues as compared to the standard raid optimizations of spriest/mage debuffs

It is my observation that those who play ret, or at least admire it, believe that the hostility directed toward them is unwarranted. It is my suggestion that they ought to play a WotLK server in order to avoid this. There is nothing stupid about this.

Having a opposing opinion regarding a spec does not in any way condone nor attract such hostility, please take your idiocracy elsewhere as this topic is regarding ret paladin's ability to dps, if you would like to discuss something else you are free to make your own thread. =)

I have played on a LK server - I have multiple 80s including a Ret/Prot Paladin on Gamer District - it's boring AF since everyone is GEARSCORE or GTFO in their spams.

I play on Vanilla because it's the purest form of the game - warts and all - it is the time before resilience and the time when most of us first fell in love with the game.
