Gank Scene - am I missing something?

I second this - I am at level 31 and strongly considering quitting. When more than 50% is spent running back to my body from level 60 ganks, it is no longer enjoyable.

Gather some people. A full raid of 30s' can easily kill a lvl 60.

You get less exp in Raids.... but if you run around like this and killing mobs constandly you are probably faster than level alone and get ganked 50% of the time.

Yeah, I know xd Just referring sarcastically to the advices in which one solves the situation simply by grouping up.

Ok, now i need an actual update to this problem! I'm currently lv 41 on alliance. I'm done with the ganking zone STV and go straight forward to the next ganker zones tanaris and the later 50+. And i'm really tired of running back to my corpse, it is possible to level atm in 45+ zones as alliance or is it the gank-paradise? Don't wanna waste my fucking time! *sing*

And please don't give me “hints“ like level in group or grind ;) i wanna quest, cause this is what it makes attractive since 2006 :P

Then go quest. You WILL get ganked. Get over it. Be aware. Keep some consumables handy. Use /world chat to call for assistance (do NOT whine). OR QUIT IDC.

I usually just browse the forums from time to time, but seeing this topic made me create a forum account to share some advice that might benefit people with little vanilla experience or anyone else having trouble leveling. One thing though, i'm sure half the people that complain about ganking are just whiny brats that would rather cry and bitch than try and do some things differently, this will not benefit them one bit. I've leveled two chars to 60 on alliance side, Rogue then Paladin, never grouped on any quest that was not an elite one, had little to no trouble regarding ganking, if you start thinking and improvising, you'll get by just fine.

Questie, get it. It's a beautiful little addon that makes your life as a leveler a lot easier. By following questie from your starting point, taking every quest available and finishing it, you will always be at least 3-4 levels above mobs that you're fighting, almost all the way up to level 60. Even at this content patch, there's enough quest experience to almost completely skip several zones and still get to 60 without having to grind a single bar of experience. The situation will only get better as more patches roll out, addition of new quests will soon make it possible to COMPLETELY skip SEVERAL zones and still cruise to 60. Don't be afraid to take quests that make you travel a lot, even across continents. as these quests are usually just talk to quests and will reward you with much more experience than regular ones. Also remember that quests reward the same amount of experience regardless if they're red or green, it's only when they become greyed out in your quest log the experience rewarded becomes way less, so doing them once they're green makes it easier and more importantly, faster.

Don't expect to get 10 full levels by doing just one zone as the game suggests, this is impossible. Vanilla leveling is a bit weird, in that quest levels are spread very wide within the same zone, a same zone can have a quest meant to be done at lv11, and then nothing until lv20. This is actually cool, as it makes you explore the world, travel, see all of it, there's nothing like leveling your first vanilla char, not knowing where you will end up next and what kinds of mobs you might fight, everything seems so enormous. This is where Questie comes in handy, as you can always view any area and see if there are any quests that can be done there at your level (you should always manually setup a difference between your level and the quests level that are being displayed on screen in Questie options, as Questie by default will stop displaying quests too early, before they become greyed out, i would suggest maxlevel = 5, minlevel = 10 for example). Change your zones, as Alliance visit Ashenvale early on, Stonetalon, don't contain yourself to Eastern continent, if a zone is heavily populated by opposing faction atm, switch for a few quests, try coming back in a few hours, be reactive, don't expect the game to accommodate to you, start adapting.

Don't be a completionist, private servers are way more populated than retail were, you can't expect to complete every single quest, know when to quit and move on. Don't be that Alliance player crying in world chat about getting ganked in Thousand Needles, a Horde heavy zone between 2 horde flight paths, while trying to kill scorpions that only have few spawn points and drop quest items at a ridiculously low rate. Don't cry about Stonetalon Mountains being full of Horde when it's such a large horde quest hub, with Alliance having 1/3 of the quests horde has.  Don't bitch about getting killed in Blasted Lands while trying to do those few collection quests there while lv60 raid geared players are collecting their raid buffs by killing the same mobs. You can do some quests easier than others in heavily contested zones, do them, but don't waste time trying to do others if you're next to horde flight path outnumbered 10 to 1. If you don't like ganking in STV camp, don't go there, you don't have to. Don't cry about getting killed while Desolace is completely empty and has such easy quests at the exact same level. Once you mount up at 40, go back to STV and do the Booty Bay quests, with less time spent running around on foot you're much less likely to get ganked.

If at any point you are tired of leveling, don't be afraid to grind a level or two. Like i already said, you never have to, there's way too much quest experience in the game, but if you really want to, there are several zones where ganking is almost non existent. Hinterlands and Azshara are prime examples, while only having a few quests they're perfect for seting camp and whacking those mobs for an hour or two.

Some classes get by easier than others. Rogues and Druids are safe to enter and try questing in any area, if the area at any points starts getting filled with the opposing faction, they can just stealth and avoid. Use your class' strengths early on, keep an eye out on your surroundings, know when to fight and when to run, always  have different what if scenarios in your head, knowing which you can survive and which you can't helps.

Both factions cry, you just don't see the other one's chat. I've camped lower level zones with other Alliance players for hours, Stonetalon being the prime example. Do you think their lv20s weren't crying after getting killed for 2 hours, not being able to turn in quests? But camping is exactly that, camping, you can't cover an entire zone. If an enemy camps Redridge, don't go to town often, gather up all the quests, then finish them all before returning, even if you die a few times once you turn everything in you're out of there.

Well this was a bit longer than intended, i'm sure there's a lot of redundant stuff in here, but i'm also sure there are players who are gonna find some of this helpful. Have fun playing the game, enjoy it, but don't expect it to go smooth on a pvp realm, with 7k online dying comes natural, take breaks, switch zones, there's a way around anything. Good luck to ya all.

minus questie. At least my experience has been miserable with it. Conflicts with other addons I use, sometimes will point you in a bad direction for weird reasons. Just read the log and pay attn to the npcs and you will have an easier time navigating.

The difference you state here is clear.

Horde 60s go out in the world and kill lvl 50-60 players, while alli 60s go to STV and kill lvl 30-40 hordes ^^

I believe you are wrong there friend :) I have experienced level 60 hordes in groups ect ganking lowbies at Lakeshire, Duskwood ect. Horde Rogue's griefing questers on elite mobs and killing them every time they ressed to loot the mob. I know it happens for Horde as well. But you clearly make it seem the Alliance do the low leveling grieving more. Both factions are equally bad when it comes to low level grieving. Not that it bothers me as I love pvp and this is part of the package leveling up. :)

I went to 60 2x and can verify that this comment is bullshit.

Exactly!

I`m lvl 55 now but don`t have problem with Horde gankers. From lvl50-to 55 was 2 or 3 time ganked while I had a great world PvP experience with other horde players (50-55)

alliance get horde free leveling zones until 35ish. horde do not at all. get over it, you had it easy.

This is correct. Horde do not get a horde free leveling zone

Believe me horde get ganked too by alliance. The ratio ally to horde is generally 48:52 however most of ally be afking most of the time so it seems like ally are alot less...Ganks are both side, it just depends what time u are playing.

Horde are PvP orientated more due to solo racials. So always u will get undead mages , undead rogues ganking ally...Same reason why their are less warlocks on alliance side.

Horde are solo pvpers , on ally u have premades which dominate so that's the benefit of being ally as well as better/faster raids.
