Throwing in my two cents, I really want to be able to swear like a sailor knowing full well Blizzard themselves put in a profanity filter set to default. So those who want to see uncensored words can. Rather have the option than to be restricted.

You know the best way to get out of the "toxic environment" is to not enter world chat.  World chat is something you must willingly join, you can also leave general and trade chat too. I suspect the special censor snowflake won't like that so he/she/whatever identifier it uses would rather have everyone bend to its will, rather than  /leave

You can rest assured, that this thread was created with the intent of finding out whether or not they could intentionally be 'immature' and not have to fear repercussions. Anyone worried about "Free Speech" on private servers (considering how absolutely terrible World chats on private servers usually are) is absolutely asking permission to be an abhorrent human being in chat and not be punished.

 

No one gets banned for a swear word here and there on these servers; that's just being used as a front to ask if they can say the most sexist, racist, hateful crap that comes to mind without fearing bans. Sounds like the answer is a clear NO from the TOS and the post from Pottu, and I couldn't be happier.

 

Heres a copy paste of the relevant sections of the TOS for Elysium:

 

A. Naming policy

 

When choosing a character name, creating a guild, or otherwise creating a label that can be seen by other users using the Game or the service, you must abide by the guidelines set forth here, as well as the rules of common decency. If Elysium staff finds such a label to be offensive or inappropriate, it may, in its sole and absolute discretion, change the name, remove the label and corresponding chat room, and/or suspend or terminate your use of the service. Guilds which violate the policy will be deleted with or without warning. You may not create a name or label related, referring, incorporates or utilizes any of the following:

• Religion, Politics, Organizations;

• Nationality, Racism, Ethnics;

• Harassment or Defamation;

• Obscenity, Vulgarity, Insults;

• Sexually explicit, Violence;

• Hateful, Drugs, Unlawful;

• Staff member or any staff oriented name;

• Incomprehensible.

 

B. Interacting with players and staff

 

Communicating in-game with other users and staff members, whether by text or any other method, is a fundamental element of the Game. The following rules are not intended to be exhaustive, Elysium staff may use their discretion to decide what may break these rules.

When communicating with other users and staff, you may not:

• Communicate any unlawful, obscene, racist or any such language and/or imagery deemed inappropriate by Elysium staff.

• Circumvent the /ignore function to communicate with a user, regardless of circumstances.

• Use non-English language in public channels.

Not being able to talk about why Fresh PvP should come first, without being utterly oppressed and demonized by you freaking nazis!

 

This is THE REAL free speech problem!

 

I shouldn't have to be met with descriptions of being an inpatient, selfish, jealous, shortsighted, ungrateful parasite, or even worse, being called a "kid" just because I wish to subordinate you to my preference of play?

 

PS: "subordinate you to my preference of play" would a kid be able to express him/herself in such an elegant and sophisticated manner? No I didn't think so!!

Actually, the kid above me who uses exclamation marks in dozens and forgot how to turn his caps lock off has a point.

Saying that people who acvocate for free speech just want a freepass to be sexist/racist/biggoted is just false. You should have played on feenix... . Still perma banned because I said that their name change policy is garbage. Aslong as elysium stays true to their terms of use, its pretty much the same as nostalrius. But the easier the crack down on any form of speech, the more slippery the slope.

By the way... /s is a public channel? That would mean a warning/ban for using french/german/chinese in /s while standing next to 2 friends in a capital city, talking to them when you arent grouped/guilded with them? Sounds dumb.

/s, /party, /raid, /guild were unaffected by the language restriction back on Nostalrius. Or no one has reported me since I typed a lot on occasions in cyrrilic, especially in /s and in capital cities. So it's safe to assume General, Trade, Local/World Defense are being moderated. And for the people being bothered by world chat - just /leave world. But in the end of the day there will be plenty of the guys spamming n-words and genitalia in all channels. It's the internet after all.

This isn't really an issue for normal, mature players.

Railing about "freedom of speech" on a gaming forum is usually asked for by immature, uneducated lowlifes. I don't think they will be catering to the lowest quality demographic of the server.

A safespotter is someone who gets up onto an object that makes it so guards are unable to attack them and uses this as a way to kill people.

 

An example of this is the rooves in Gadgetzan or some places in Bootybay and Lightshope chappel

Interessting how you guys argue over something you totally agree on. He wants to have free speech to rant about the old server coming first and you to tell him how the old server should come first... no idea how you made up the part with "only free speech when it benefits you" though.

When you say you wouldnt mind if his advocating for the new server first was censored, why dont we flip the script and pretend like the new server was coming first? Btw for some of you who seem to have missed it, this is clearly sarcasm, he is acting in a Randy Marsh-esque way (just look at his first reply on a post about fresh pvp https://forum.elysium-project.org/index.php?showtopic=22979&hl=handled) and is pointing out the hypocrisies of the people who wish to limit free speech.

 

I think some of you have been away for far too long from Barrens chat, so your sarcasm sense has been dulled a bit

 

 

As for the topic it self, listen, I'm against bullying in any form, but with that said, people who wish to limit free speech, are usually people who have bad ideas and even worse attitudes and wish to limit free speech in order to protect themselves from legit criticism.

Legit criticism is always welcomed and was always welcomed , neither was censored at all.

 

Insulting is real issue and main reason why censorship should be there , we don't want to live in dark ages where only people education was caves .

Censorship is bad if it cover some "legit conversation" but it must be there to prevent insults and offensive hate speech , it should be there because nobody's opinion should be "black mailed" if 1 vocal doesn't agree with go out full with insulting and trolling.

 

Whoever disagree with that , feel free to go Feenix and Crestfall , they allow you 100% to insult , racism etc, i doubt you will feel that place as home.
