Crestfall Exodus

Recommended Posts

Crestfall are creating a sever that will be PTE ("Progress Through Expansions"). It will start with Vanilla and move to TBC after about 2 years and so forth.

My question is this. How many people do you think will leave and how will that affect the server populations?

While old Nost folks do not wish to start on fresh they might feel different about a PTE server. And all these people that are hyped for fresh give off the impression that they are very fickle. Elysium fresh will drop on January and Crestfall is presumed to go live somewhere in March. That is way before MC opens and probably before quite a few of the fresh guys even hit level 60.

That's why the bitterness and division that's been festering here on Elysium will drive a lot of the people away, in my opinion.

What we need is another thread about server populations, where nobody has any empirical numbers to offer, and nerds just belch out words.

I do believe that using trends and and information gathered from community interaction in order to predict the outcome of future events is a billion dollar business. I think they do it during elections, too. But maybe I'm wrong and I'm just a nerd belching out words.

My question, though, still stands. How do you think this new server opening will affect the population? Slightly or severely?

No impact at all. Nost's claim to fame is population and on private servers, that trumps all. All things being equal, I would have stayed on Kronos as their scripts are the best of any private vanilla server, bar none. That said, all things are not equal and pop is a big deal as nothing impacts your experience more than a big pop to play with/against. So, I and many others play Nost and don't worry when another project dips its toe in the private server waters. You do realize there have been MANY others right?

I'll join crestfall 2 months before TBC comes out, and stay on Nost until then if it gets that far. Ive yet to see a server in the past few years even make it 2 years w/ a decent population. Why anyone would jump ship early when Nost/Elysium will be way more populated and have their content our sooner is beyond me. Farming MC/BWL from Nost 1 > Kronos 2 > Nost 2/Elysium > Crestfall sounds like a nightmare

I don't know. I would have agreed if you had asked me a month ago but having seen such rampant hate on these forums I am starting to wonder. I even made a post about a week ago trying to get people to be more civil towards each other but as you can see the very first response I got even on this thread was some dude flaming me. It's like anger is the default setting of this community. Have you seen the Discord chat or the general chat in game?

I don't remember old Nost being this way.

If you conflate the extremely tiny majority this forum represents with the entire playerbase, you can be assured your findings will be nearly useless.

Well, surveys are usually conducted on small groups and are mostly accurate for the large population they represent. Obviously the data could be heavily skewed here if you assume that all the polite and friendly people in our community don't bother to log onto Discord or post on the forums. I hope that is the case. We will see.

I don't think you understand the science behind surveys if you equate a tiny minority of people who actively choose to post in a forum with the vast majority that does not. The key here, as you kind of hinted at, is representative sample.

You'll fine 'hate' no matter where you go involving a large community with many individuals from the Internet's, cross many different counties. It is also unfortunately the trend of our current internet generation kids.

This thread is stupid.

"let's just leave our chars that we got back on old nost! YAY CRESTFALL" lol no ...(this applies to the PvE realm aswell)

"let's just leave fresh server (coming 7th) to join an UNKNOWN server and drop one that we know has working devs/gms" lol no ...

So this thread should be moved to off topic where it belongs.

Next, as good as Crestfall appears to be, closed Beta only launched yesterday, so there is no evidence as of yet to confirm that the server will be better scripted than any MaNGOS realm out there. I'd suggest leaving the CF whataboutery topics until open Beta at least.

CF does not intend to directly compete against Elysium, it's not offering the same product as the core element was always designed for PTE, in fact, part of that process (scripting for TBC) is already being worked on.

There will always be a core element of toxic players and they tend to migrate to larger populations or fresh servers, but they don't last as there is always the next big thing. Give Elysium a chance to settle down and work on bug fixes, gold farming, toxicity and spamming. I am grateful for the opportunity to test and play here, although second time around I'm finding myself more picky.

You are right Outstanding, some people have short attention spans. They give into fads and always want to be on the 'most blizzlike' or 'best' server.

They go to the fresh server now but in 3-4 months they will move on if they don't find everything to be peachy and to their liking. Fresh also drew a lot of people away from old Nost and if many decide to leave then the servers might start to slowly become less and less populated.

It happened on the WotLK 1x Lordaeron server of warmane after they implemented the Lordaeron core on the 7x Icecrown server. They too started with 15k people and 10k queues but now it's Icecrown who is always capped. I don't exactly remember when they implemented the core but it was a long time after I hit level 80 and I was a slow leveler and yet many people abandoned their full epic toons and moved. I'm still playing on Lordaeron but just 2v2 arenas. You can't even find 3v3 games anymore and 5v5 is rarer than a unicorn. It's not as fun as it was when people were swarming the server even thought they still have a few thousand online.

Plus, people are already complaining about things being different and not blizzlike. There is also the gold farmer problem which will probably not exist on CF as they have banned Chinese IPs if I understand correctly.

It kinda annoys me that they are trying to compete with one another and just end up with diminished populations.

Anyway, it is all speculation at this point. I was just curious what other people thought about the issue.

Well maybe the "fresh" server fags will join Crestfall to enjoy more MC + BWL farming. lel

What about the old server fags, like yourself?

just too bad this is not nost buy elysium, so its hard to tell how this will go
