Disable VPN connections to server...

Recommended Posts

I see what you're getting at, and I like it.  But I'm still wondering, how do you engineer the application process so that the admins don't have to filter thousands of automated applications that we know the parasites will produce?

Maybe have them actually talk to an admin on discord (voice chat) to get approved. I remember a game called Arma had servers where before you could play on them you had to get approved by an admin on their teamspeak. We could have a similar situation set up just for getting VPN approval. Whatever the process is, it cannot be made easy or automate-able.

When you have a problem, you get rid of the problem not something that could be a potential source of support for the problem. Also LOL @ your "statistics".

If we have a gang selling drugs in the city and causing mass crime, and all of the poor people are buying drugs from the gang would your solution be to kick all of the poor people out of the city so the gang can't make money anymore or to kick the gang out? The answer should be obvious.

So you agree with me. Its nonsense to ban an entire group because of the actions of a few. My *statistics* are also spot on because the majority of mmo players are NA based in these sorts of games that also backs up the majority of gold buyers are NA based as well plus they have the money to afford such things unlike many players in countries where $10-20 for some ingame currency is a days wage or more.

I work overseas as do a few friends plus a lot of military friends who use VPN's to play because of latency. I also have met many Aussie friends that also use VPN's to play as well because most games servers are NA based and its NOT so enjoyable being 350-400ms w/o a VPN especially when raiding.

Of course for the self centered people living in NA with blazing fast internet that many countries don't have access to for the mainstream public its easy to be selfish and self centered. It also shows how hateful you truly are of people from other countries as you think all that matters is you. Its just nice to see MOST people even in the NA region aren't as self centered.

People who get hacked are gold buyers or account sharers 99% of the time, I have very little sympathy for them.

I think my example went over your head. It's okay, you'll get there one day.

I'm gonna throw you a fast ball here...wait for it...

What if I told you that it's not the fault of the players that the other databases where their account info is supposed to be secure got leaked in the first place...and therefore it's not the fault of the player that their account info was used to get in to any account whether it be that actual database or another...?

Furthermore, foregoing trial and going straight to the punishment is a pretty фекал way to go in pretty much any first world country, so why apply that reasoning to how you handle people playing your server? The fact of the matter is people aren't even getting a mulligan, it's just, OH, you got banned for being compromised, get rekt and buzz off or make a new account. There's no warning or one-off. It's absolutely, horrendously punishing for such a small mistake/error in judgment on their choice of password, considering what each individual player could stand to lose in the vanilla wow environment (tons of time).

I'm sorry but this victim blame фекал that people like you (and unfortunately the dev team) are doing is pretty lame duck. Not a really good look for the server, unfortunately.

1. I have been playing WoW since 2005. I have played on Retail servers as well as 4 or 5 different private servers. Can you explain to me why I have never been banned in abt 12 years of playing WoW?

2. I support the server's decision to perma-ban ppl who claim to have been hacked. It is, IMO, the only way to seriously motivate ppl to take account security seriously.

Anyone who has been an administrator, a manager or served many years in the military, will tell you that people are lazy and to make them do anything one has to motivate them.

Perma banning your account after being "compromised" is a pretty good way of going about it. The saying goes "Once bitten, twice shy". The next time someone who has had his main account banned starts a new account, I can assure you they will take account security very bloody seriously thus becoming a part of the solution instead being a part of the problem.

3. What they are doing is pretty good for the server.

Regarding population, we already have way too many people as it is. We are getting 6000 long queues quite frequently, and the server lags because of the sheer amount of people. If their tightening the leash on such as you makes some people leave the server, all the better for the rest of us.

4.CHINESE VPN'S: There is no such as thing as "legit Chinese player". Ppl in Japan, China and Korea have got their own Asian-Flavour MMO's which they play. People choosing to go through the trouble of playing on a European server from China will almost certainly be two things:

a. "PROFESSIONAL CHINESE WOW PLAYERS": People who play together in a guild cheating and hacking and selling BG boosts and BG matches (through win trading) for the sole purpose of making money.

We used to have 3-4 such guilds on Kronos before the administration banned them.

b. "PROFESSIONAL CHINESE GOLD SELLERS".

Therefore, banning specifically Chinese VPN's and NOT Taiwanese, Korean or Japanese or Philipino VPN"s will be a good idea, as this is a fix to a part of the playerbase responsible for 95% of the cheating/hacking/goldselling/BG selling issues.

Cucks do not want to use effective solutions, because they don't actually want to solve the underlying problem(s). Because addressing the underlying problem(s) leads to butthurt and madwords.  And cucks cannot abide being the target of madwords.  And the staff -- Nostalrius and Elysium -- well intentioned as they are (and I do enjoy the servers very much) are absolute cucks on this specific problem.  Blizzard, too.

"HUR DUR DUR WE CANT BAN TEH VPN THAT WONT SOLVE THE PROBLEM HUR DUR DUR"

Oh, okay.  Maybe up the minimum level to use chat channels and /whispers to Level 9 --- see if THAT works.

We're waiting to hear your "better" solutions.

Well VPN has nothing do with people getting hacked. They got hacked because a database was leaked and they use the same account credentials at every server. Disabling VPN would just make the chinese unable to play but people would still get hacked. Chinese is not the only ones selling gold btw you'd be suprised.

The actual reason they're not banning the Chinese is because they don't want to lose such a massive chunk of their playerbase even if it meant that the quality of the server would go up. As a result they will just keep dodging the problem and implementing halfass "solutions" instead of addressing the actual problem.
