Can warriors DPS?

Recommended Posts

They can dps at 60 in raids but they are pretty meh in 5 mans especially leveling up because they have no cc and their dps is weak until they get +hit gear. If you don't want to tank and only want to dps roll one of the 4 pure dps classes such a rogue. I play a warrior and I am open to group with any of the off specs (shadow priest, ret pally, feral druid) except for a dps warrior when doing dungeons because it's just lazy on their part. Any warrior can tank pre 60 instances regardless as spec so I am not going to invite someone to my group to do weak dps and provide no utility then roll on all my gear.

So I should be open to tank as well if I'm going to roll warrior is what you're saying?

I think I'll go mage then.

IDK whats your prior experience with vanilla and what are your end goals for once you hit 60 with pve and pvp?

I don't have any experience with vanilla but I want to raid once I hit 60.

Arms warrior is nice for dps if u want to dps in 5/10/20/40 mans after levle 41 since by then u get mortal strike/sweeping wounds.

U can cleave/whirlwind/mortal strike/sweep strike aoe mobs.

I heard warriors can only tank and that their DPS is awful, is that true? I want to give warrior a try but I don't really want to tank.

Can Warriors DPS?

MC Rankings: http://realmplayers.com/RaidStats/Ranking.aspx?Bosses=00010203040506070809&realm=All

BWL Rankings: http://realmplayers.com/RaidStats/Ranking.aspx?Bosses=0B0C0D0E0F0G0H0I&realm=All

With that out of the way:

Warriors that do tank 5 man instances may not want to invite another mail/plate wearer (depending on level), to compete with gear as they need dps gear for leveling as well, and don't want the dps to take things better for tanking also.   When everybody is a leveling spec, crowd control can be helpful which a warrior lacks.  Not every dps needs to CC, 1 CC is good enough, but you still may limit interest from other groups.

Your damage will be fine and comparable to other classes as long as you are not underleveled for the content.  (research glancing blows).   You should be using a 2-hander and not duel wielding and the severe lack of hit gear isn't much of an issue.

Within a raid enviroment, even though you may be DPS spec and play that role, your name WILL be called upon to tank a mob here and there.  Some pulls/bosses have a lot of adds to deal with, and you should be prepared to adjust accordingly.  As a DPS, regardless of your level, you should always have a 1h + shield with you.  The prot warriors will get their gear and then funnel gear to the DPS warriors to make them better tanks when needed for the adds they are asked to deal with.

No. You should never raid as Arms. Fury on the other hand.

Looking at this , seems crazy their are hardly any warlocks and to some extent mages.

Thought warrior topped dps after zg/aq when they get good gear but seems opposite.

Warlock start topping meters in Naxx.

This may seem odd, since warriors are gear dependent, yes.  But there is a lot of great warrior gear with hit through MC/BWL, and great weapons.  Warlock lack hit gear until ZG/AQ40.  Most mages fall behind by a little to locks end game, and top end mage dps is skewed by Ignite buff, which all the dps goes to whom ever starts the rebuff, while other mages contribute to keeping it going.

Yes they can dps, but you will need to tank at least some of the time. When gearing up you find groups FAR EASIER if you are tanking and they don't even complain if you roll on dps gear, and for raids at least some of the fury warriors need to put on a sword and board (with actual tank gear) to OT a few fights since there are only 2 or 3 prot warriors in a 40-man raid. For the raid setting, you don't have to grind so much for tank gear as the scraps from the core tanks will be enough. The main problem with fury dps is not the dps numbers themselves, but the threat since you have no way of reseting/reducing it with your abilities.

Plus when you tank you can easily lead the group and decide which classes you bring.

So a warrior dps wants to come? he can suck it! all the plate belongs to us, *evil laugh*

Warriors start doing good dps around lvl40 when they unlock sweeping strikes and whirlwind. Warriors also deal top dps at lvl60 in  raids.

Or you can take it one step further. Only bring locks and mages:D

I've been in ST at lvl 53 two times and was top DPS on my first run and as good as the mage in the 2nd run. I am 2hand arm warrior.

But, I am fighting with Destiny+crusader.  Therefore, I would say warrior is probably the classe that DPS scales the most with gears.  For sure If I was still swinging around my Truesilver Champion, I would most probably be 3rd on the DPS chart and trailing behind by a lot, over the healer and tank ofc..

So if you want to be DPS, just start your own group, and commit to it to proves to your party members that you can DPS. So get potions, elixirs, buffs, epics weapons and enchants. Otherwise, you wont be able to compete at all.

At 60, I will have no choice but to switch to DW fury and hunts for the +hit % gears... Because all people will tell you ''2hander DPS isnt viable for alliance''

Horde side, you can tho with windfury totem, but you are still an alien for hardcore raiders.

The charts you are looking at that post are from all the realms realmplayers is keeping track of. Some of them are on aq-naxx patch allready, thats why you dont see anything else than warriors-rogues.
